Anyone else out there have this problem?
Good morning. I am 5 weeks post-op and have just found some protein shakes that I can tolerate - THANK GOODNESS!!! Anyway, in the a.m. on my way to work, I try to drink a 20 oz bottle of water (my commute is just shy of an hour) - to help get my water intake started on a good note. Then when I get to work I try to drink an 8 oz. protein shake with FF milk for breakfast- total of 28 grams of protein. Then generally around lunch time, I am not all that hungry, but know I should eat, so I eat some soup or have tried some tuna fish, which I love, but it has made me very nauseated both times...My question/problem is this....I see a lot of people saying that they are getting their protein drinks in as "snacks". I can hardly eat what I am supposed to, three times a day at regular meal times, much less a snack in between. Drinking water between my meals keeps me really full... I have no clue how I can fit a "snack" in??? Does anyone else have this problem?

Is that 3-4 oz per meal? I am lucky if I get in 2 oz per meal. I try to have 2-3 protein shakes/drinks per day but sometimes I only get 1. Not very often though, because I know I need more protein than that. I drink the Nectar Lemon Tea and that way I can count it as protein and water. (23 grams per scoop.) I mix mine in with 16 oz of water though so that I get more liquids in.
yeah usually it's only 3 ounces per meal. It takes about 30-45 min. to eat that and I chew my food very well so its practically mush when it goes down. Dietary recommendations for protein intake is 60-80 grams a day. Your body can absorb only so much. I get about 20 grams per meal so that's 60 grams a day. But just follow your doc's orders... every doctor is different.

My "snacks" of protein drinks are counted as liquid for me, so they don't really count as a meal, per my nutritionist. I eat 3 actual meals a day, and rarely anything else. Because I just use water in my protein shake, its just like drinking water to me, it doesnt fill me up. If I actually had to eat a snack, I dont think I could. I am like you, sometimes I have to tell myself, its lunchtime, you have to eat, whether I want to or not. My nutritional goals daily are:
Protein 100-120g
Carb under 45 (15 per meal)
Fat under 40
Calories 800-950
There is no physical way I can eat that much protein in a day, so I have to supplement with 2-3 shakes a day.
