Can I join you all...
Hi there,
I was sent over by one of you wonderful April-06 ladies.
I had my surgery on April 11th. I am feeling good, except I still feel a bit nausiated in the mornings and I am trying sooooo hard to get my protein in, but cannot tolerate!! I know how important it is, but I gag and dry heave each time I try to add protein. I have tried atleast 50 samples, I am hoping that my taste will change soon!
I started out at 233 pounds and as of this morning I have lost 38 pounds. I have had slight stalls in the past 2 weeks of only 2 pounds a week instead of more. I will take it!
What are you all eating and how much can you eat at a sitting? I am having trouble with this as I cannot tolerate alot right now. I am getting bored with what I can eat!
I would love to hear from you all and hear what you are doing.
Amy
Hi Amy,
I had my surgery on 04/12/06. Fortunately I can tolerate some protein although I'm not at the mark they want me to be at. I can eat about the size of a very small plate, the plate that you would set the coffee mug on. You should go to bariatricadvantage.com. They have a cereal specifically for gastric bypass patients that has 15 grams of protein and is only 94 calories. That may be easier on your stomach. Another good resource that I used is www.wlscenter.com. This is Barbara Thompson's website and she is an expert when it comes to weight loss surgery as she has had the surgery herself. You can email her with questions and she will respond very quickly.
Good Luck,
Carla

Hi Amy
Welcome to the April board! You'll love it here and all the people. Congratulations on your weight loss so far! That's great!
I had surgery 4/27 and just started eating soft/semi-solids 7 days ago. I'm able to get in all my liquids and protein.. I've had NO problems with anything I've eaten so far or the protein powders & shakes I've drank, so I can't help you there. Are you getting ANY protein? And are you getting your liquids?
I just posted what I ate yesterday to Carolee's "what did you eat?" thread. If you look back through the previous posts and read ones she's posted over the past couple of weeks, you'll get some great ideas for meal planning from her and others on the board.
Again, welcome!!
Hi Amy. I had my surgery on 4/18 and I am down 43 pounds as of yesterday.
I am on solid foods and can eat 1/2 cup at a sitting and I try to eat at least 5 times a day (I should eat 6, but sometimes work gets so crazy, I just dont have time for that second snack).
I know that the protein powders can be gross so try to get your protien from foods as much as you can. I am a cheese fanatic so I am always happy to nibble a cheese stick and they have a fair amount of protein in them. I also eat QSmart and South Beach diet bars and they're good. Also, if you can afford them, Blue Bunny makes a carb smart smoothie (in the dairy section, by the yogurt) that have 13 grams of protien per bottle. I drank one for breakfast today.
What kind of food consistency are you on at this point?

Amy:
Re: protien, after trying ALL the no carb no sugar variations of powdered protein and wanting to blow chunks every time... I have ended up with a compromise. I went to GNC and got a powder that has about 5 carbs per scoop, 120 calories and 2 sugars. I mix it with atkins shakes or water and it tastes alot like powdered coffee creamer to me ( vanilla). I have noticed a HUGE difference in my energy levels and weight loss (yay!) so I would encourage you to keep trying products, even if they aren't typical protien no sugar no cal pwoders.
ALso remeber 1 oz of mozerella (1 string cheese) has 8 grams of protien.
Other good foods to try-
Mashed cauliflower with some salt and butter
Chicken salad
Moist tuna (I have 2 oz with about half of those 100 calories wheat thins packages for lunch)
Lunch meat roll ups with some lite mayo
LF granola soaked in skim milk or soy milk softens and hasgood amount of protien (watch the calories though- a half cup is about 200 odd calories)
Chili- beef and beans and cheese and lite sour cream- yummy!
Spinach + egg+ flax meal pancakes
