How much exercise are you doing?
Last week was my first back at work. Prior to that I was walking about 15-20 minutes per day and doing 1 hour of water fitness a week. I found that working cut into things and I pushed it the first week back so I was unable to finish the entire week. I did my regular job, walked during the day for 15 minutes and then on my second day did one mile after work.
Now I am doing 1/4 mile per day and trying to just work and build up my strength. My surgery was April 10
I was walking about 3-4 times a week anywhere from 1/2 a mile to 3 miles. Hoping that the pool was going to open any day (have to wait until Saturday). I was also hoping to get back to the gym to do my leg and excercises. That is until Sunday, when after I took a shower and found I couldn't put any weight on my right leg. I ended up in the ER Sunday night and with crutches if I needed them. I have an appointment with the Orthopedic surgeon today. I'm not sure what I did to my leg/knee and by the time I went to the ER it was getting better at least I could put weight on it. I've know for a long time that this knee would need to be replaced which is one of the reasons I had the WLS. I'm just hoping that it's still a ways down the line.

Hi Denise
Well, as I get under this , I have to say that I'm not walking nearly as much as I should be. My doctor recommended 45 minutes a day. I thought, "is he kidding"? Before surgery I couldn't walk a block without my back giving out. But just with 35 pounds down, I'm already noticing a big difference in my back. I AM walking about a 1/2 mile a day now. I know it's not nearly enough but it's been in the 90's down here and unless I'm in the water, the heat makes me sick. Since my 8 wounds have completely healed, I've started swimming, and also every evening I use my Gazelle that my friend gave me. I can't help but laugh when I'm on it because I can see Tony Little on his infomercial saying, "YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!"
I am looking forward to when I'm physically able to do more.
Hi Denise,
I have been walking daily since surgery just trying to stay mobilre and to build my strength back up . I just got the clearence from my surgeon last week to start slowly with aerobic excercise / brisk walking ect. So I have done 1 mile of brisk walking for the last 4 day's and just yesterday I acheived a 15 min mile ! I was so happy !
I also did some upper body weight training but just started that yesterday using 3 lb dumbell's . I did 2 set's of 12 for each of 6 different excercises !
My plan is to eventually walk 4 mile's a day in an hour's time for 5 day's a week. Do weight training 3 times a week . I know it will be slow at first but that is my ultimate goal and I will acheive it !
Happy Losing !
