Hi folks, I am 45 years old and about 3 and 1/2 weeks out from RNY surgery. I am freezing all the time. Last night I went to bed with the thermostat set on 72 and wore a turtle neck, pj bottoms, a terry robe, and I had a sheet, 2 blankets, comforter and another robe laying on top of me. i slept comfortably that way and did NOT sweat at all.It is not particularly cool in Illinois now either. My husband said my hands feel like ice. Any thoughts anyone? Do you think I am sick? My temp said 99 with an ear thermometer. I don't feel badly at all - just COLD> Kim M.

While I'm not freezing all the time, I do feel cold more than I did before (and I'm 3 1/2 weeks out too!). Cold is not something I feel, I have sweater sets with sleveless sweaters that I wear in the winter and will run around my office without the outer sweater! Our normal bedroom temperature all winter is 62-64 degrees. Yesterday, I was cold when it was 66 degrees, I turned our heater on. I think part of mine is that we are having significant calorie declines and our bodies are conserving our calories for our necessary functions (heart, lungs, digestive systems, etc). If you feel sick, or that something isn't right, call your doctor. Better safe than sorry in my mind. Melissa

I'm freezing too. This has always happened to me anytime I have lost weight. While I'm losing I'm freezing. I'm just dressing warm and keeping fleece blankets on me when I'm in the living room. Lizzie

fat is your body's insulation. when you take insulation away, you need to figure out how to maintain temp. That is probably exactly what is happening with your body

I get cold alot more now than I did b4 surgery. I have noticed that the more I go outside and move around, the less cold I feel inside. I think it has somthing to do with getting the blood moving around...LOL.... Good luck.

I also get really cold hands and feet! When I get into bed I have to have pj bottoms and socks on- I HATE wearing socks to bed but my feet are so cold. But I have lost the fat from my feet because my shoes are all falling off my feet! I sure hope our bodies adjust to the thinner bodies and regulate so we aren't so cold all the time...

I'm almost 5 weeks out and was cold all the time particularly the first few weeks. I had to wear socks to bed for awhile too. But it is getting better. I'm still colder than I used to be - I was always hot b4 surgery. We had switched to a light bedspread and I have had to put a heavier comforter on the bed. The first few weeks I slept with some fleece blankets on top of me as well - my hubby was too hot. But it does get better. It's probably our bodies trying to regulate itself to everything that it's been through - Carolyn

Before surgery I was ALWAYS hot, at home and at work. Now, I'm mostly comfy. So I guess if I weren't hot natured before, I'd be cold now.

I get really cold now too! I was already always a cold person, but now it's even worst! I have found myself cranking up the heat each night - even as must as it costs - I used to be good with my blanket and comforter, but I had to add an additional comforter to my bed and still wear my winter pj's. I was just asking my mom the other day if she thinks my weight loss is thinning my blood or something??
