I'm a month post op and have been scared to try salad. I've tried everything else, don't ask me why i'm scared. But does anyone have problems getting salad down? Lately it seems like lots of things that didn't get stuck before are getting stuck now. Thanks1

HI SHERRY, MY SURGEON SAID THAT I COULD NOT HAVE ANY RAW FRUIT'S OR VEGGIE'S FOR AT LEAST 10 WEEKS . HE SAID THAT I COULD NOT HAVE ANY GREEN SALAD FOR AT LEAST 3 MONTH'S FOLLOWING SURGERY AS IT IS SO DIFFICULT FOR US TO DIGEST IN THE BEGINNING . SO IF YOU DO TRY IT BE VERY CAREFUL . IF YOU HAVE DOUBT'S ABOUT IT GIVE YOUR NUT A CALL OR MAYBE EVEN YOUR SURGEON AND RUN IT BY THEM BEFORE TAKING THE BIG CHANCE OF IT GETTING STUCK OR UPSETTING YOUR NEW TUM-TUM . WHAT EVER YOU DECIDE , GOOD LUCK ! and CAROLEE

I've tried a couple pieces of lettuce and didn't have a problem. My nut said it was ok. Jeanne

I was also told not to eat it yet. I'm four weeks out and I'm not supposed to have any lettuce or raw vegetables (cooked well are ok) and I can only have soft fruits like applesauce, bananas, canteloupe (none of which I've had yet) Lizzie

RNY on 04/13/06 with
Surgery date 4/13/06. I haven't dared try salad yet. I have been having some days where food goes down really good and then the next not so good. That's when I go back to liquids. I would wait on the salads until your doc gives the okay.

I have not tried salad yet. It kinda scares me. I do put banana and strawberries in my protein drink sometimes tho, and don't have any problems witht them. I have the same problem, stuff gets stuck sometimes, but usually because Ive eaten it too fast. Good luck, and be careful!! chew chew chew that lettuce if you do try it. Let me know how it goes if you do.

I had RNY surgery April 21, 2006 and I have been eating salads and I do fine. I get the chicken BLT salad from Wendy's and of course I eat the chicken first and mix in the salad. But, everyday is different, one day I can eat something and be fine and the next I can't. I believe everyone is different. Take care and God's speed

I can have salad Wednesday. I'm counting down! I've talked to a few people who do really well with salad at 4 weeks or so. The key is to make it moist (add cottage cheese or salad dressing) and chew well. Counting the days until I can have salad again... Melissa

Sherry, my surgeon told me I could start on salad again at my 3 week post-op appointment. BUT, he told me it should be shredded lettuce ****berg) and, if I wanted to add carrots or anything, they must be cut very small. I have been enjoying my teeny 1/2 cup of shredded lettuce with shredded 2% cheddar and Newmans Italian dressing ever since. Lisa L. 380/339/170

Hi Sherry, I am almost 7 weeks post op and I started salads last week. About 1/2 a cup with some chicken and shredded cheese. No problems with them yet. Everyone is different. I did wait until I was 6 weeks post op to try. I was craving them bad, so thought what the heck I'll try alittle. Went down good so the next day lunch that's what I had. Good luck.
