no loss in 5 days

i am actually up 2.5 lbs *sigh* I want to cry. I have been avoiding the scale and broke down and got on. I was 257.8 last wed and 260.2 this morning *sigh* I just want to bawl. it's only 2.5 lbs. My period is due any day. My husband said let it come and go and then see what happens. I have been meassuring everything that goes in my mouth it's between 2T-4T nothing but calorie free fluid in between and protien shakes.. *sigh*

Stacey, I am right there with you. I lost 19 pounds in my first 12 days post op. I have been stuck since, so about a week. I measure every single thing that passes my lips, I drink all my water, I walk, I take my vitamins. I am frustrated as well. I dont see how its possible that I am not losing anything. So, I feel your pain, know that your not alone! Amity

awe thanks! I have been doing soem research and networking out to my friend's who have had RNY. They all said that magic 3 week time period they all hit a platue! EVERY one of them! about the same time they started on purreed! they all said it's your body adjusting, and it thinks it's starving so it's hanging onto everything it can! add into the fact i am waiting for my period and bloated as HE** I guess it can count for the +2.5 but it's so upsetting I am very glad you answered this. it really helps me know I am not alone

Stacey~ You are not alone. My surgery was the 18th. I lost 15 pounds the first week after surgery. then the following 2 weeks I only lost 2 pounds. My nut said that it is sometimes right after surgery we loss a lot of water weight. Then in the first couple of weeks we will gain it back. WE are lossing fat, but gaining back water so you don't see it. the water weigh will level off, and we will start to see the fat weight go down. He also said that if you didn't exercise before surgery and started after, like I did, that we would have a "little" muscle weight gain. Then on top of all that, our bodies are confused and think we are starving and holding on to every pound for dear life!!!! Hope this helps. I know it made me feel a "little" bit better after I talked to my nut. Melissa

Stacey- Step away from the scale No, seriously. I had some major anxiety issues with the scale a couple of weeks ago. It almost made me depressed. I stopped weighing and started focusing on other things in my life because this weight is going to come off. I mean, there is NO WAY possible to not lose weight. There are other ways to measure your progress such as how your clothes are fitting, how much energy you have, etc. We are more than just a number on a scale. Also, I've read that this is called "hibernation syndrome". Our bodies are alot smarter than we give credit. Your body doesn't know what year it is or that you've had surgery, it just knows it's not getting all the calories it used to and thinks it's starving. It is not letting go of the weight because it thinks it's helping you survive. I weigh every 2 weeks now. It will happen. Take care. Stacey, I am in the same place. I have not lost a pound since I started purred food. I think I have gained a pound or two. However, it seems to be normal so I am not lettig it get to me. I am also very low energy at this point. I am having a harder time dealing with that. Everyone keeps reminding me I did just have major surgery and I have cut my calories by a few thousand a day so I should not be surprised by my lack of energy. Anyway, I am guessing by next month we will all be talking about how fast we are losing! Hang in there it is all worth it! Terrie

Count me in the same boat!!! I only lost .5 lbs this week. I am only getting on the scale once a week but my clothes are starting to fall off! I have lost 29 pounds so far and I got a "lecture" from the DR that I need to eat more often!!!!! So I am doing that and lost the .5 so I guess that isn't bad?!?! Never in my life was I ever told to eat more!

You have to eat to lose. The nutritionist says that all the calories that are going in our bodies right now are used to maintain our organs and stuff. I dont know how it all works, but I do know that the days I eat the most are the days I lose the most. I have lost over 40 pounds since surgery. Good luck. Jenn

Stacey!!!!! PLEASE don't get discouraged! Although I don't have them anymore, if you are expecting your period, you know there is always several pounds gained during your period. We had the same surgery date and I, too, have been trying to avoid the scale. I'm still on clear liquids and can't even have the protein shakes. I was weighing every day at first and each day it was up AND down. So I quit for awhile. I know it's hard but we have to put less emphasis on the scale. Jenn is right though, we have to eat to lose. So try not to let this discourage you right now. Our weight loss journey is going to be a long one and we will always be "tested" by the scales. It's taken us many many years to get to our current weight. Have faith that the weight WILL come off.

OK - I'm am going to have to check into this room more often...I thought I was the only one going through these things. I was a scale nut - I had been weighing every morning and every night...then I asked a friend who had the surgery last year how much I should be losing...and she recommended the same thing as someone else did...step away from the scale! I've forced myself to try not to weight at all - and just wait it out until my next doctor's appointment, because I was worrying myself sick! (OK - I have cheated once, and weighed myself, but I definitely stopped the twice daily weigh ins). The explanations people have posted make a lot of sense...and even though the scale doesn't say that I've lost ... I can tell by my clothes and peoples reaction to me that I'm apparently losing - or at least exchanging fat for muscle.
