NEED SOME HELP PLZ!!!
I am just over 3 weeks out and I have had a really rough time. I had alot of complications and have spent 16 of the past 24 days in the hosp. but that is not what I need help with. I can not find a protein drink I can drink. Matter of fact it is very hard for me trying to get my water in. I am not drinking enough and the thought of trying to get it all in is overwhelming. Also I do not have much energy and I know i'm not walking enough...can someone give me some advice on these things please!!!!!
Thanks
Rose
You have only been out of the hospital for a grand total of one week. Protein is hard to get in. If you are having problems with getting your water in I think I would be more concerned with staying hydrated at this point. I dont know about anyone else, but I was not doing too much walking one week out of the hospital. Walk back and forth in your house if it makes you feel safer. There is protein water, Im not sure where to buy it, but I have heard of it. You might try that. Not a whole lot of protein, but better than what you are getting now. Other than that all I can say is talk to your Doc. Sorry. I will pray that you get well.
Rose,
I am 2 weeks post-op myself. I have been getting my protein and hydration all at the same time. I bought a 100% Whey protein powder and I mix it with water or crystal light. You can get the protein powders in many different flavors. I have a banana cream flavored protein powder and it is really good mixed with the orange crystal light. As for the walking, I can only say that the more I walked the better I felt and the faster I began to heal. At first I had to basically force myself to get up and do it. I would walk for 10-15 minutes, rest for awhile, and then do it again as often as I could. I am now back at back at work after two weeks. Hope that this is helpful in some way.

Rose,
I could nt do protein drinks at all so dont feel bad I still cant but you do need to keep hydrated, when I was 3 weeks out my surgeon put me on soft solids like deli turkey string cheese and that really helped me now I eat more solid next week I start to add foods and then I can eat anything I want well you know what I mean healthy that is, try some mashed potatoes with cheese i did those alot cause that was about all I could tolerate,
good luck and I will keep you in my prayers
hugs and love

Hi Rose. Sorry to hear about your complications...I know how hard it is...I am still off work due to my own complications. I hate the protein in most shakes but I do actually like Unjury protein powder. You can order it online at www.unjury.com I believe...I am not promoting it just mentioning it is sold online. I have tried all the flavours and the flavourless...it is really the only thing keeping me going. I am 5 weeks out and having a lot of trouble keeping anything not liquid down....Anyhow, I also know you can get Unjury samples so you don't have to buy before you try. I make my shake with skim mil**** and use my Magic Bullet. Not too frothy and no gross aftertaste. Occasionally I throw in a ripe banana (well half) Hope you are feeling better soon

Hey Rose,
Okay, take a deep breath.......... I too could not eat or do protein for the first 3 to 3 1/2 weeks. It's okay. You need to drink water, crystal light, or juice, or chicken or beef broth. Sometimes we try to introduce protein and food to soon. Everyday is a new day. I lived on sf popsicles and chicken broth. I can't stand it now but it got me through. I could not drink reg. ff milk and so I tried soy milk. It helped. I would mix whey protein mix and soy milk together. Now I can do reg. ff milk. It is weird how one day something will work and the next day it won't. If it won't just know it may tomorrorw. I am so sorry you have had a hard time. Like someone else said it is not how much you walk just walk some. I had to start out just walking in the house. Up and down the hall and then sit. Then I would walk around the outside of the house and sit. Take baby steps and sips. I promise it does get better. Just don't push your self to hard. Take it one day at a time. If I can help you in anyway just email me.
God Bless
Crystal
I'm four weeks out and I am not back at work yet due to my own complications. Before the surgery I liked almost every protein drink I ever tried. Now it is so hard to get one down. I am still weak and get exhausted easily. I am having trouble keeping food or liquid down, but it is slowly getting better. I have Crohn's disease and the inflammation is making it take longer for my GI system to heal and get used to the new way of doing things.
My primary suggestion is what I keep telling myself - to not be so hard on yourself. You have obviously been very sick and it is going to take time to heal. Do what you can. We're in this for life now and it is going to take what it takes. I keep telling myself to look at the big picture and think about what I will think about all of this in 1 or 2 years.
Hang in there,
Dotsie
