First day with no loss

Hi all, Well I started on pureed food yesterday and for the first time since surgery I did not wake up at least 2 pounds lighter. Mind you I have lost 24 pounds since surgery. I have done great. I am walking at least a mile a day whihc I break into three walks. I feel wonderful and I have had no problems at all with food. Still here I am at my lowest weight in 4 years and this is where I have gotten stuck in the past so all those old feelings are coming up. I realize weight myself every day is not a wise move and I plan on changing that behavior very soon. However, I this point I am just so happy to be able to weigh myself on a scale at home I am like a child with a new toy. It is so exciting to watch the numbers drop. Anyway, I guess I just needed to say "out loud" that I really wanted to see those numbers drop today. However, I am thrilled with my progress, with how well I am feeling and with all the support from my friends and family. So I guess I will go back to being grateful. Thanks for listening. Terrie

Hi Terrie - don't fret about the scale not moving today. I'm just 3 weeks out myself and like you weigh every day. When I started solids I experienced the same thing. Prior to surgery my highest weight was 288 and I went down to 233 on my own (-50 lbs). But I was stuck at 233 +/- a lb or so and couldn't get any further for 6 mths. I was stuck big time. Once approved for surgery I went through the last meal phase and gained back 20 lbs. Since surgery I got back to 233 - I was so happy but also so scared that I wouldn't get past it. The scale did stop there for a day but the next day I was down a little more so I think now that I know I will get past it this time. We shouldn't be slaves to the scale - but it is a habit hard to break I know because I think many of us become obsessed. I lost weight years ago (gained it all back of course) but during that time was obsessed with gaining a lb. So these habits are in us to be obsessed with our weight. Don't sweat it girl - the weight will come off this time. If you need inspiration just look at all the before and afters - I've been doing that the past few days - they're awesome. Carolyn

Well I get on the scale everyday too and my scale is always saying one thing, then another thing. I mean there's like always a 2-4 pound difference when I get on. It's digital, my friend said something is wrong with it,LOL. But I haven't lost anything this entire week, so i'm really freaking out and as a matter of fact, it looks like i'm GAINING! I started out at 295, the lowest I got to was 273 and now all of a sudden my scale is going back up? I'm big time freaking out. Maybe i'm retaining water, I don't know, but i'm not even a month out! I'm already a slow loser as it is!

I drink about 64 oz or more a day. And then I don't drink the protein shakes. I just live off of cheese, tuna, chicken and fish. My friend said i might need to supplement but i'm lactose intolerant, i can't stand chocolate nor vanilla. now, some chocolate is ok, and i used to drink the low carb slim fast before surgery but i tried it yesterday and it made me sick, so i don't know what to do!

I would get the vanilla.. make it with water. pour in some sugar free syrups for take or puree in a banana. make it more palatable

vanilla would make me sick just because it makes me think of milk. I do like the strawberry high protein boost, but they are LOADED with sugar and calories, so I can't drink those. I did before the surgery though. I might try the low carb slim fast again, they have 20 g of protein, and then maybe put some ice and a banana in there and make a smoothie out of it? I have some unjury, but i hate the smell.

There ARE protein supplements out there that are not "shakes". The Nectar series isn't bad. You mix them with water (and it counts toward your water intake too, which is great) I loved the Carribbean Cooler mixed with milk before surgery, now it's a little sweet (plus I ran out of it ) but it wouldn't be bad with water. I ADORE lemonade in general, but preop I HATED the Roadside Lemonade. Haven't had the courage to try it post op. You can get unflavored protein from Unjury (don't know what flavor you got, I hated almost all of them except the vanilla)... I mixed some into some V-8 juice. It kind of sucked, made the V-8 taste "proteiny" if that makes any sense. I've still got most of the jar left, I'm working on trying to find something to mix it with that doesn't end up tasting like protein, but that's hard to do. There is also protein pudding from Bariatric Advantage... little on the expensive side, but I fell in LOVE with the Cappuccino flavor, it was like being able to have actual dessert again. Little low on the protein, but a little protein is better than no protein. I have also tried Profect. Some people say they hate this, I actually thought it was pretty good. Again, kind of on the expensive side. BUT, a great benefit is that it's a pretty small test tube looking thing that is easy to drink, doesn't taste overly "proteiny" and has 25 grams of protein in it. I've heard there's a "generic" version of this, have not tried it. (no, I'm not some sort of protein reseller or whatever. I've just spent a fair amount of time trying to find something that I can enjoy. That hasn't happened yet, so I'm still looking for something I can drink and get it over with. ) Bottom line is, there's GOT to be a protein out there that you can find at least palatable enough to get through it. Protein is VITAL at this point. As is water. Good luck, Julie
