OUCH! OUCH! OUCH! HELP!

Hello - I'm new to the board, but I need some help. I had RNY LAP on April 25th, so I'm about 2.5 weeks out. My husband had it March 7th and is doing tremendously well. He also seems to have an iron stomach and can eat anything. I, on the other hand, do not. My doc says this third week is pureed week. I can eat whatever I want as long as it's sugar free and pureed. So, I made a pot roast with potatoes and carrots. Okay, big mistake, I forgot about the red meat thing and spent 5 hours yesterday in pain until I finally threw up, which was just another form of pain. Today I tried again and ate just the potatoes and carrots and it's doing it again, but not to the extreme of last night. I guess even beef broth is out? Before I throw up food, I throw up very very foamy spit. What's that about? Also - yogurt is good, pudding is good, bu****er hurts. Water has always hurt. Please does anyone have any idea what is going on with me? I'm pretty concerned, and I hurt constantly - either from drinking water or from trying something new. Right now I feel like someone has thrown bricks at me repeatedly in the stomach. I am so sore. Frances

Frances, Hi, I had my surgery the same day, April 25th so I am kind of new at all of this but my advise would be 1st call your Doctor and let him/her know what's going on. Then I think I would step back and go to the liquid diet until the pain goes away. Your pouch is still healing and maybe the roast was just a little too much. I'm on a mushy food stage which consists of cottage cheese, malt o meal, scrambled eggs, and yogurt, there may be a few more things I can have but can't think of them right now. Good luck

I second the advice to call the Doctor. Better safe than sorry. Maybe you are progressing too quickly through foods? I threw up foamy stuff once. I think I ate too much and too fast and I walked around in pain for a while and finally threw that up but not the food. I heard someone who is years out from surgery call it "the slimes". I'd check with the Doctor to see what you should do. Lizzie

I had surgery the same day and the doctor still has me on liquids only. Maybe you are going to fast. Call your doctor. Kim M.

First, I'm gonna say to call your doctor to see what they have to say, they are the experts. I too had surgery on the 25th. I had a run in with a bite of turkey burger that didn't get chewed enough a few days ago (I'm on soft foods...that ws probably pushing teh soft food limit a bit...but they were very soft and tender.) Anyway I COULDN'T throw up...I was in so much pain and I tried everything and just nothing was working. So I posted on the main board here to get a fast response and about 3 or 4 people said "papaya emzymes." So I immediately drove to GNC and picked some up and they helped so much! They are little chewable tablets that taste pretty good. So while I've stopped eating turkey burgers until I'm put on regular foods, I think the enzymes are good to have around just in case.

On the 8th I posted some meal ideas for everyone. There are about 50 ideas for liquids a few pureed and even some fast food choices. You are still healing from MAJOR surgery. Enjoy the trip, don't beat yourself up and listen to your physician.

I would also consider how much you are eating. Even though it is not much, it can still be too much, and if it is and it's semi solid, it hurts!!! Overeating your pouch may not be the cause of your pain, but it was the cause with me. It took me most of my third week to figure that out, because after surgery, FULL, didn't feel anything like it did before surgery. Once I cut back to about 1/2 of what I thought I should be able to eat, even though it seemed like nothing....I stopped having so much trouble with pain and discomfort. Best of luck to you! Heidi L-S
