Laura...... Carbonation causes two problems....one the carbon does cause extra air...tolerating it is not enough....the first problem is that it expands the pouch while the air is in there,,,,,over time of continued use you CAN stretch your pouch...Maybe not much....but youcan stretch it....there is an unneccessary risk involved.... Second....it can stretch your stoma....while the air is in your pouch..it can put undue stress on the new opening to your pouch.....this is something that can happen rather quickly with out any discomfort or problems....you will not even realize it until you will be able to tolerate larger bites of food at atime...which is why the stoma was made so small..ti begin with... I am glad you are losing....but pouch rules are so important....we were all told to stay away frmcarbon at the time of our surgeries...there was a reason for it...why cause undue stress... Good ,luck on your goals...and continues success as always... Rae

Topic: Happy New Year !!!
Happy New Year to all. I hope everyone takes a moment to refect on how far you have come in the past year. I will start and hope to here from others. Last year at this time I had just started this journey and coming across many road blocks. I got approved the day before my surgery on April 5th. I had many complications but never gave up. I went into surgery not afraid to die. I felt I was half dead anyway and didn't have a life. What did I have to lose? Thru many months of complications I never gave up. I look at pictures from 3 months ago and realize how sick I was. I am so glad to say today I sit here Happier and Healthier then I have been in my life. I have lost 113 lbs and want to lose 50 more before I have a hernia repair and T/T in May. Life is so good and I have so much to look forward too in 2006. My biggest moment will be when I ride that Bike with my grandson. All in due time but I know 2006 will be my year to shine. I am going to be so good to myself and make up for all the years I treated myself bad for I truely didn't like myself. See all lighter. Joanne

Please help me understand why the carbonation is so bad? Other than a little extra air, but if we can tolerate that discomfort what's the issue. I've been drinking diet pop for a while now and I still continue to loose, although, like everybody else not as fast now. I'm down about 148-150lbs, depends. I seem to fluctuate a few lbs daily. Happy New Year all!!!! I am so looking forward to tomorrow and starting this challenge. Thanks to Tom and Rae for volunteering to be our guides. Get everything you need today so you can start in the morning. I am going to make l/f cream of broccoli soup in the morning. Today I will pick up some decafe coffee. This will be the hardest part for me. I still remember after surgery that's all I wanted was a cup of coffee and when I got it 2 days later it taste like grinds. I already have my bottled water and I am going to cut down on the coffee too even if it is decafe. I wish all luck in this challenge!!!! We are going to do so great. I will post my weight in the morning. All do the same and lets get this thing going. LOOK OUT WORLD, HERE WE COME ON THE MOVE IN 2006!!!!! SEE ALL LIGHTER!!! Joanne

Topic: Need a little Help!
First and foremost I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. Mine is definitely healthier, happier and lighter And my health has improved almost 100%. My problem is I would like to post an updated photo to my site, but I have forgotten how to do it. The first one was done my the staff, but they will not change it until I reach a loss of 100 pounds, I have 30 more to go. Does anyone know how to explain the process of changing my picture to http:? I tried following the instructions on the Photo page, but it didn't work for me. Can anyone simplify the process? I'm going to try again, but I need a little help, obviously, I am missing a step or something. Thanks in advance. YaVon
