Craving Sugar!!!!!
Hi All,
Are any of you experiencing sugar cravings??? I have not wanted anything sweet since surgery until last week. Nothing seems to satisfy the craving. I finally ate two mini tootsie pops (felt fine after doing so at least if I had gotten sick it would make me never want to do it again!!!) I have made an appointment with my dietician but I won't see her until Nov. 14. If you can offer any advice I would be grateful!!!
Teresa
I've been having sugar episodes for a couple months. It calls to me and I've been eating it to the detriment of my weight loss. The past week I have pulled up my socks and stopped the cookie and candy binge.
Friday I made apple crisp with no added sugar and high protein granola baked on top for the crunch. Sweet and delicious and acceptable for my eating plan. Try something similar made with any fruit to trick your sugar tastebuds into contentment.
My personal apple crisp recipe
4 cups thickly sliced Cortland apples
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup broken walnut pieces
Tbsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
Tbsp lemon juice
Mix together and dump into Pam sprayed baking dish.
Top with 2 cups high protein granola cereal.
Bake @ 350 degrees 40 minutes
God, I hate math....
Last time I made this I used 12 apples, 1/2 cup raisins, 1/2 broken walnuts, and 2 cups high protein granola.
One medium apple has 80 calories and 4-5 grams of fiber
1/2 cup raisins has 250 calories, 2 grams of fiber, and 3 grams of protein
1/2 cup walnuts has 400 calories, 4 grams of fiber, and 10 grams of proteinI use two cups ZOE's FLAX & SOY granola cereal: 760 calories, 28 grams of fiber, and 36 grams of protein.
Add everybody up and divide by 12 servings and per serving you get approximately:
200 calories
7 grams fiber
4 grams protein
To be honest, the only grams I count are protein grams to make sure I get in the 60-90 grams per day my surgeon recommends. I also count ounces of liquid to make sure I'm getting enough.
I promised myself once I had this surgery I would never make myself insane by counting calories and carbs and fat and whatever again. Life is too darn short!!
Best of luck,
Lynda

i havebeen having difficulty wit hcravingstoo. not sure if it is stress with the holidays coming or what , but all of a sudden it is bad. i don't dump either. i can eat everything and anything. i do eat less than before the surg. my only saving grace. has stopped the weight loss though.
unfortuneatly , i seem to have difficulty with self control too, can't just say don't do it like the first 6 months.
i don't think i was prepared for this yet. hopefully it will straighten out. i'm trying note to eat the wrong things. i try to eat protein or drink water first sometimes that helps.

Hi, Teresa
I get the cravings for sweets to and if I go ahead and try something, usually one bite will do because its not as good as I thought. I have to be very strict with myself, though because I dont dump, and could fall into bad habits. I also like to cut up and peel and apple and have it with peanut butter. If all else fails I have a power crunch bar. Now I know you cant eat them too much , but I think if Im going to have something sweet at least it has protein in it.
hugs from down under
Helen
