OK What's the deal?

I had surgery on April 28th and as of two weeks ago, I had lost 130lbs. I am very happy with my losses. Here's the question. I am finding that I can eat quite a bit. two poached eggs, 4 slices tomato, and about 5 oz of cottage cheese. It seems like so much more than the rest of you. I can flat out kill a watermelon, or a batch of nectarines. I am so dedicated to making good food choices, that I do not concern myself with quantity so much. Am I going about this all wrong? I have made one bad food choice since my release from the hospital. I didn't dump, but the remorse was enough to keep me from doing it again. I hear about stretching the pouch, but I never feel any pain, nor do I get sick. I am one of those who had complications, I spent 6 weeks in the hospital after surgery. My girlfriend is so excited. She told me last night what a success I was and how proud she was of me. I told her to hold that thought until 1 year, and we could celebrate. To me the success will come in the long run. Right now I am in the middle of the struggle.

Maybe it's simply that you had your complications in the beginning and will be blessed now with an easier path. I don't want to say you're eating too much but have you tried eating less? If "kill a watermelon" means you're eating a whole watermelon...wow. I don't like to criticize, but that seems excessive to me. Plus there's no protein in watermelon. My surgeon limits me to one or two 1/2 cup fruit servings per day because of the natural sugars. Perhaps you should talk to your surgeon's nutritionist about a diet plan. Lynda

Most of what you're eating has a very high water content. If you were to separate the watermelon from it's water, you'd find actually very little solid. Liquid travels through pretty quickly which explains why you can eat so much more. Your weight loss is outstanding, if your doctor isn't worried, you shouldn't be either.

I agree his weight loss is outstanding and he's come very far since April. However, now he is wondering about his choices. Watermelon and nectarines have a very high sugar content as does fruit in general. Doesn't matter abou****er and solids if there's lots of sugar in them. Eat lots of salad instead. High water content but no sugar to mess you up. Lynda

I read his post, I didn't see him wondering about his food choices at all but rather, how much food he was able to eat at one time. My response was based on the water content of what he was eating and why he could eat so much of it - not what he's eating.

Says right in his post that he's so dedicated to making good food choices! I wonder where he went. It's no fun fighting over some guy if he's going to disappear during the action. The least he can do is tell us how wonderful we are for trying to help him out. Men... can live with them, can't shoot them. Lynda

I know, I read that. But he also said he was concerned about the quantity he was eating and stretching his pouch. I didn't read that he was worried about sugar. I wasn't 'fighting' with you, just responding to his post as I read it the question.

Thank you so much for you input. It really helps just getting opinions that matter. Your opinions matter. We share a common bond. My calories are in check, and the sugars from the fruit don't seem to bother me at all. I went to see the nutritionist, and have lost another 19 lbs. for a total of 149. I truly am blessed. I have started eating more salad and less fruit, and I need to increase my proteins. Shrimp, and chicken breasts seem to be doing the trick. Thank you again for responding to my post. Richard

Thanks for the reply, Kill a watermelon usually means about 1.5 cups. You were right about the proteins, my nutritionist wants me to up my proteins, fats, and calories. They seem to think I am losing weight a little too fast. Is that possible? Richard
