I have had the hardest time mourning food. I am considered by mnay I know to be a gourmet. I have cooked all my life and have catered on occasion. Both my husband and I love to watch all the cooking shows on TV and have over 150 cookbooks. I miss cooking. But right now I cant stand the smell of alot of foods, let alone the taste. Does anyone else have the sense on smell thing going on? We love to BBQ this time of year, and I was told NO RED MEAT, but I had a little top sirlion. It was more tender and easier to get down than the chicken (which is still gagging me) I had no side effects whatsoever. Of course I wont eat it often, but I will once a month. Ive felt like alot of my joy is gone. I know alot of us centered around food, but it was really entrenched in mine, and I feel a true loss. Anybody else?

Yep. Big time. I miss food sooo much. I am truly surprised by my reaction. Everything I used to do centered around food. Movies, circus, family dinners, etc. I spend a lot of time trying to figure out what to do instead of eat - sad state of affairs. In most ways it's getting better, and the fact that I miss it so tells me how addicted I was/am. I'm very glad I did this and am re-learning my relationship with food. Have you read Susan Maria's book? She is also a gourmet like yourself. Perhaps it would help? Good luck to you - I believe it will get easier!! Stacie

ME TOO~~ I think of something I would like to have but if I try it~~ sometimes I might be able to eat one bite. I have red meat all the time, was never told not to, it is much easy for me to get down than chicken. Chicken is too dry and sticks. Meat and fish are my saviors.

Carol,I'm missing food also although most of the time it is manageable.I can't eat red meat or fish except tuna fish canned without regurgitating. I really miss not eating red meat.I do eat small amts of chicken though.I think the reason we ended up needing sugery is because food was/is an addiction for all of us. Better days are coming!!! Hi! I'm so sorry you're mourning food. I used to live to eat & thought it would be terrible. I said 'good bye' to so many foods before surgery. I knew that at some point I'd be able to have them again, but it would never be the same. If it was I'd be over 300 pounds again! I haven't missed food much though. If I want something I have it. We go out to eat & I order what I want. I usually end up with enough for several days, but I refuse to deprive myself of the taste! My biggie was probably chocolate & candy. There are two things I use so I don't feel guilty: I get these melt-a-way chocolates at my store that are awesome. You have no clue that they are sugar free, the other is sugar free taffy. There aren't as many flavors, but it sure helps when I need to chew. Salads.. I miss them. So when I have the chance, I have a few bites & have done ok with them. Just got some fresh sweet corn, so will have to see how that does! Chicken.. I can only do legs and then not always. Sometimes they are just too dry. I do like chicken salad though. I also have started new activities. I always wanted to boat & never did because of my weight. Well, guess what? I have a boat and am loving it! I can plan on losing 2 pounds every day I go boating and have a good time doing it. I also go swimming at the pool several times a week. Hang in there, life is getting better by the day!
