Sorry to butt in, but...
WOW, I have no idea who this Susan Maria is but does she have a problem or what? She actually SELLS stuff and expects people to buy it from her after that nasty little note? Maybe she should expend her energy on telling persons HOW to make the shakes taste better buy preparing them in different ways. Chastising people is not the way to get anyone to drink the protein or take the supplements.
By the way...I get in my protein (yes, there are good ones out there).
Tee hee... not sure what THAT means (I take VistaVitamins - does that mean I have a problem too? LOL!!!)... but Susan Maria is 4 years out of her gastric bypass surgery... if you have read her book or checked out the recipes area of her site, you'll see that she does share a lot of hints and recipes for yummy meals... She also goes out of her way to find protein stuff that doesn't taste like clay
So sure, she's a saleswoman, but that's not all she is... some people from these boards actually have met her (I have not) and agree that she's an incredibly nice person who actually gives a hoot about her fellow "gastric-bypassers"
Take care,
Angie

That whole "rant" had the most unfair statements and comments that I have ever seen on this site and I am glad that I didn't see any thing like that before my surgery, because I would have never came back to this site. This web site has been a wonderful tool of support to me, and my family going threw this whole process. Every body is different and every body also was not fortunate enough to make it threw the surgery even after picking up their vitamins and protein. So I think that this no idea of tough love, but passing judgment. Lackadaisical, non compliant, non comprehensive, having no backbone or self control these are the words that were use. That sounds nothing like tough love, that is insensitive and does not represent a supportive attitude or support page. You know what that sounds like, that really sounds just like all the people who said "you don't need to get the surgery, you can lose weight without any help, all you got to do is pick up your feet and go to the gym do what you are told and and eat just like I tell you". I'm sure if it was that simple for everyone to do then they wouldn't have a job. So my response to the surgeon and Ms. Susan Maria would be if you haven't experienced it don't down talk it, and if you have experienced it don't forget. Things do happen after this surgery that people still cant explain. So lets work on that and let the psychiatrists deal with the other stuff. If you make protein shakes and vitamins then good that is great but lets stick to that and If you are a surgeon great lets you are appriciated and paid lets stick to that too, but if you dont know what every person goes threw then just leave it alone.
Because it was indeed a rant, it was a general statement, an opinion... rants are seldom "politically correct"... tee hee... I sure didn't take it personally because I understood where she's coming from since I actually know people who BY CHOICE are sabotaging their surgery... Besides, she doesn't know me... so I know she's not talking to/about me Anyway, most of us thankfully know what we need to do and actually DO it. But I was hoping to reach those who don't... my focus was on the "take your vitamins, EAT YOUR PROTEIN" part.
I don't know every surgeon in the world, but I know mine and what I love about him the most is that you know he truly, really cares about his patients... and he is saddenned by patients who don't care to do the right thing. I know one personally who's ended up in his operating room twice after surgery because she has the "why should I have to change my lifestyle and eating habits?" attitude. MY GOD, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT PICTURE???
I didn't want to cut anything out from the rant, but my main point was how we must never forget about our vitamins and PROTEIN. Whether you drink it or eat your protein (there are definite differences of opinion on that front!) is not the point. But always make protein your priority.
As I've said before... you all just began your wonderful journey. I've just celebrated my first year anniversary and I'm here to tell you... there will be times when you will want to come back and read that rant, because the more time passes, the easier it becomes sometimes to forget what we need to do... If you go see the replies I got on this rant in some of the older boards, you'll see what I mean
We ARE in fact just human I know I personally appreciate reading stuff like this to help me refocus and stay on track. Do I agree with every word? Nope, I don't need to. I just need to take from it what will help me on my journey.
OK... I think I'm done now expressing my point of view
Best wishes to you all!!!!!!!!
