You can get Colace from the Pharmacist. Don't buy the commercial stuff off the shelves.

I asked my surgeon about this very thing. He suggested Metamucil mixed with 8 ounce of water once a night. Unfortunately, I can't drink the 8 ounces fast enough and it starts to solidify at the bottom of the glass. Starts looking like snot!!! Judy PS I can't wait to start taking my flax again. Maybe he will give the okay at my 3 month check-up on the 28th.

I had the same problem, my surgeon said Milk of Magnesia. So, I went to Walmart and bought the Equate brand Milk of Magnesia. I take it and less than an hour later I'm moving again! It really works wonders. I don't use it all of the time but when it gets painful then I know it's time. Hope this helps Laura

I had a horrific problem with constipation and talked to my sugeon. As per his instructions, I've been taking a daily Colace stool softener for almost two weeks. When "things" finally started moving, it was like labor pains from Hell. Made me hyperventilate and everything. While my internal waste management system seems to be getting better the past few days, it still isn't anything near normal. Good luck to you. Lynda

My doctor suggested Benefiber for constipation. It's a powder that has no taste, and can be added to all kinds of foods (yogurt, pudding, hot beverages, etc.) and it doesn't gel if you can't drink it quicjkly like Metamucil does. I put a tablespoon in my decaf tea every morning, and now I "go" about 3 times a week, which is pretty normal for me. I also add some Feber One cereal to my yogurt once in a while, and my Saturday breakfast is a bowl of Fiber One. Good luck. Linda

I was told to use milk of magnesia or dulcolate, but absolutely no stimulants what so ever...I did by accident once...and boy did I pay for it!!!!!

Angela, I am with you. Awful constipation. Benefiber did not help me. colace did not help me. Now I have a small fiber meal as a snack..fiber should be taken without any vits since it does interfere with absorption. I use Fiber One cereal which has 14 gr of fiber! Just a 1/2 c or less is enough. At night, I drink Smooth Move tea before betime. And every day I do this, I am rewarded with a nice easy movement in the am! If I dont, then ducolax is best. Bu****ch it..I took 3 tbs once in desperation and had diarrhea in my pants! LOL Julia

Yes, me too! I asked if I could drink a litle prune juice and my dietitian said "NO!." She suggested trying to get more activity in, but I had been so weak I just couldn't do much. As I added more vegetables and fluid I started having more regular bowel movements. I think part of my problem has been fluid retention in my belly and pain--pain so bad I didn't want to push for a bowel movement. At my last doctor visit he said I could take about a half dose of Milk of Mag, but I hate it, so I suffered along for a few more days. I'm back at work and even though I have a sedentary job, just the daily routine of getting ready for work, fixing my lunch, doing some household chores, getting up and down at my desk more often than I was at home has helped me.
