hospital weight????
Hey everyone, I have heard that people gain weight while in the hospital after surgery. Does ANYONE know how much on the average people can expect to gain while in the hospital????? I only want to know because I want to figure out how much weight I have lost all together, and that is some weight that I lost too, so I really want to know.
Thanks for the help
Anita,
While I understand you wanting to add that to the lost weight (I gained about 10-15lbs from fluid in the hospital, myself), I would say it isn't worth it. It was a temporary gain, that you most likely would have had with any surgery and would have lost within a few days even without WLS. I count my weight loss from my day of surgery weight -- I don't count in the 6 pounds I lost pre-op, as most people would do, though, so maybe I am weird.
I think you should be proud of the weight loss you know for certain and forget about the IV fluid.

DISCLAIMER: The above is just my opinion, which I am allowed to give at will, it doesn't mean that you must agree or disagree, and quite frankly, I don't really care if you do either.
The few added pounds you gain in the hospital is from all the IV fluids and such. You wouldn't have actually gained weight in the hospital, just had some things done that caused you to retain quite a bit of water.
The true way to tell how much you have actually lost is by your weight the morning of your surgery. I get the feeling that maybe your wanting the weightloss to be higher than it actually is, but don't we all? You really can't lose weight that wasn't truly there to begin with, you would only be kidding yourself.
Pre-surgery, I could drink a gallon of water and my weight would go up from putting so much liquid into my body, but when I get on the scale the next day would I have considered it part of my weightloss? Heck no! Purely fluid retention, not weight gain.
Your doing a good job thus far, don't beat yourself up over the numbers on the scale!
