Monthly cycle and its affect on weight loss-there is a pattern here!
Hello everyone,
I keep reading about everyone experiencing plateaus and have been struggling with that myself. I am 10 wks post op and have realized a true pattern to my weight loss. The 10-14 days before, during and after my period - my weight loss completely stalls or is very, very little. Then the next two weeks I usually drop between 8-10 pounds.
It is so frustrating to be going through these cycles and having the weight loss slow down this much so soon. I am trying really hard to stay positive because I am down 50 lbs since early April and this is the lightest I've been in a long, long time! I know that losing 10 lbs per month is a healthy loss and still keeps me headed in the right direction. However, its hard to keep reading about others who keep losing 20-25 lbs per month at this stage.
I am over half way to my goal so that probably explains the slow down as well. I just wanted to post my "theory" for others who may be experiencing the same thing in relation to their periods. I've read about others taking diretics (sp?) during their periods to avoid the weight gain - but i don't want to do anything drastic or unhealthy.
Anyone else having the same problem?
Linda
i have the same problem. it was very depressing the first month. then it happened again. now i just ignore the scale during that time. i look at how much i loose over the month. otherwise if i focus on just the bad, rather than the positive i wouldn't get very far. it's easier to be happy then depressed. so i've ajusted my idea what i should be loosing to what i am. i wanted to loose 20# a month for 6 months. now i am happy with 10-15 pounds. i reminded myself i never would have lost anything beofre this surg. so something is better than nothing. it helps that i finally had to buy new clothes. i feel better about myself and have more energy. it is very hard to wait til it is all off. but a year will be here before you know it and more wight will be off .
hang in there.
let me know if you findanything that helps to loose weight during this time.
the water gain is prob there for a reason. our bodies are a miraculas thing. takes care of it self. i thionk i would only worry about a diuretic if the water gain did not come off. otherwise you mess up your body's natural balance of electrolytes. dieting already shocks it into thinking it is starving. i usually lose the weight i gain and then pretty solidly over the next 10 days to balance out my weight lose for the month.
i try to make sure i eat enough carbs (good ones) and protein so my body doesn't go to crazy.
