Will I ever eat beef again?
Hi Jacquie,
I had my surgery a week before you on the 11th. I am able to eat hamburger, steak, etc. I am just sure to chew, chew, chew and chew some more. I started out with a very small amount and have slowly increased. For dinner tonight, palm-sized piece of steak and just a little bit of lettuce with fat-free dressing. Try slowly and good luck,
Lisa
Well I can relate with you. My dietician wants me to try more meat for the protein, like beef. So today my hubby and I went out to eat for dinner. I thought I would order the roast beef and swiss roll up. Thinking it would be good, low carbs, high protein. 10 min. after I stopped eating I started sweating and feeling like I was going to Then I had to run to the bathroom and which hurts my pouch really bad. For about and hour after I had sharp pains in my tummy. So yes, I too cannot tolerate beef. Maybe I'll try it again next month. They say if something bothers you to try it later on. Good luck.

One bite too much and I feel sick, so I am very in tune with how much I eat. I can't eat meat without some kind of sauce though. I use SF BBQ, A-1, SF Ketsup, Salsa, Hot Sauce, etc.
Good Luck!

Jacquie,
I had surgery the same day as you and I can eat beef. I cook mine to fork-tender and then chew like crazy. There is hope. Here is a great recipe that is low-fat and easy, and you could try.
All-Day Roast
feeds a family of 4 with leftovers
1 small white onion, peeled and sliced
1 small bag baby carrots
2-5 lbs potatoes, peeled and quartered
1-2 lbs SIRLOIN (this is the most tender cut for this recipe)
1 can Budweiser
3 oz Worcestershire sauce (Lee & Perrins is the yummiest, but any will do)
place sirloin in a deep oven-proof casserole dish with carrots and potatoes. Place onion slices on top of roast and vegetables. Pour Worcestershire sauce over all and then pour beer over all. Cover with aluminum foil. Place in the oven at 300 degrees for about 6 hours. When you remove from the oven, the roast will be tender enough to pull apart with your fork. You can cook it longer for a more tender roast, but do not cook at a higher temperature. There is no need to watch the roast, as the liquid will keep everything moist. Sometimes, I will remove the aluminum foil and leave in the oven the last 30 minutes to get the potatoes a little browned for my family (I am not allowed to eat potatoes yet)
To be honest, I do not know the nutritional values of this dish, but I know it is low-fat, as long as you get a lean sirloin. Because it is cooked in the beer, there is some added sugar, but not a lot.
Hope this helps!

On my surgeon's food list, beef does not come until 6 MONTHS out. I do not miss beef at all. I love my chicken and fish. Can't wait for lettuce, though. Hopefully it will be on my plate soon!! (recommended at 12 weeks)

It amazes me how we can have the same surgery and such different recommendations from our surgeons.
I know that many people have a hard time with beef. I had a hard time with chicken. I just couldnt eat it till about a week ago. I am 10 weeks post op, I was able to eat beef since about my 7th week. A hamburger patty (about 1 ounce) with lite miracle whip...its amazing how much this helps, moist food is very important, also make sure your bites are no bigger than a pencil erasure. And chew every bite 30 times~I ate veggie burgers, or as much of one as I could ....its very important to be in tune with your new tummy. I try not to eat in front of the TV as it is so easy to get distracted and eat to fast or take too big a bite. You will be okay...just take everything really slow!
I alternate on days when I can eat beef and when I can't. I had surgery on the 11th of April. My dietician said to take papaya when eating meats. It is a meat tenderizer and helps with the digestion of it. They sell papaya enzimes (they are chewable) at the vitamin store or GNC. Next time you want to try beef, try taking those as well!
