Hello everyone, I'm going on vacation in July to the Bahamas. I know you are not supposed to drink alcoholic beverages. But has anyone tried? I want a Bahama Mama.

From what I understand about alcohol, mostly you have to be careful about the sugar contents of what ever your putting the alcohol in. Because I know that the sugar could get you sick. Would hate that to happen on your vacation. Also, I hear that you get drunk very quickly because the part of the intestines that was bypassed is where the alcohol is absorbed. I know some one who has had the surgery and drinks but she is a year out. I was told to wait at least that long. Good luck, becareful, and have a fantastic trip !! Cheers Julian

My doc has a different philosophy and said it was ok to have a drink or 2 and I am not even 2 months out. So far I havent tried anything with sugar in it but if you dump on sugar, it will probably be just as bad if not worse with alcohol & sugar. Here are my expereinces so far: Vodka and diet coke seems to work ok as long as you sip it really slow and are mindful of the carbonation in the coke. Shots are a NO. PERIOD. You will be in AGONY. Wine is great. No problems at all. You buzz fast but it goes away as quick as it came on. You need to make sure that for every drink you have, you drink 3 times as much water.. Hangovers happen a LOT easier because you get dehydrated from alcohol so make sure you drink a lot of fluids. Elizabeth 4/18/05 Dr. Waldrep 263/224/150

My Dr's Office says that 8 weeks is okay. I had a margarita at 6 weeks and did just fine. It's true that you buzz and get drunk really easy, but hey... at least you won't want to drink as much anyway. So far I've had a couple of margaritas, and some wine and did fine with all of it. I think it's really personal to your own tolerance. Just experiment and see what works for you.

I have tried 2 drinks.. One - a Madori margarita.. A massive NONO - It made me sick less than 5 mins. Apparently the madori is sooo SWEET. If ur able to consume V8 - like I am... seems Bloody Mary's are ok. I got to drink it with ease.. I just told the bartender to hold off on the hot sauce. Which ever u try.. I would suggest to try it at home first or a resturant close to home..so U will know how it will affect u on ur vacation. * remember no high sugar *** GOOD LUCK Chrisite Rny 4-11-05 -60 lbs

Hi Lavonya, As I type to you I am sipping on a Smirnoff watermelon, yes you get tipsier quicker and I havent had any problems having a drink now and then. Try a drink before you go to make sure you won't get sick. Good luck and have a great time. Oh and I had my surgery 15 days after you so hopefully you will be able to tolerate it also. First of all, can I come? I live in MI and its COLD today, last week it was in the upper 90's and humid this week its FREEZING!!!!!Anyway, I tried some wine last weekend and got really . I guess just stay away from things with sugar and you should be fine. Just remember it won't take much to get drunk now. Your tolerance wil be quite low due to how fast it will be absorbed. BUT......it wears off much quicker, so you can get a little drunk in the am, and pm!!!!!! No straws either, it'll cause major gas!! Have fun. Kristy

I made a few Bloody Mary's last week while on vacation. I was a bit worried because I like them very spicy. I didn't skip on the spice but didn't use as much vodka as I used to and had no problem. Enjoy your vacation! Brenda
