Hi, I've been worrying about this also. Glad to see others are going through the same problems, I'm experiencing the very same thing!!! I live in Michigan, and had my roux-en-y open on April 4th 2005. At the time of surgery, I weighed 268. I had the surgery not so much to lose weight, per se, but to help with my diabetes. It worked!! My blood sugars were running between 125 and 200. Yesterday, my blood sugar was at 86. I no longer have to take diabetes meds. Yeah!!!!! Its been over 8 weeks, and today I weighed in at 232. That's only 36 pounds. My daughter, who is 20 years younger than me, had surgery over 2 years ago. She started at about 300 and dropped 60 pounds the first month, by 6 months post op, she lost over 100. Her lowest weight was 160 lbs. she is stablized at 180. I thought I was gonna lose the weight like that. I've been really discouraged, so I've been doing some research, with my doctors and on the net. Here's some research... How much weight will I lose? Weight loss after gastric bypass is gradual, although it will to most rapid in the first several months after the operation. It may take up to two years for maximum weight loss to occur, which is usually somewhere in the area of 60 to 70 percent of excess body fat. Thus, if you are carrying one hundred pounds of excess fat, you can expect to lose a total of between 60 and 70 pounds. This weight can to regained, however, if you do not continue to practice strict dietary control. The weight loss results of gastric bypass surgery are generally good. Most patients lose an average of 10 pounds per month and reach a stable weight between 18 and 24 months after surgery. Often, the greatest rate of weight loss occurs in the very beginning (that is, just following the surgery when you are still on a liquid diet). My doctor said if I could lose only 10 pounds a month, I wouldn't have alot of hanging skin all over. It is better to lose the weight slowly, much healthier. So it looks like God is watching out for you and me both. Good Luck Here's a great link about Gastric bypass surgery if you have the time to read it. It's from A comedian , Basil White, who had gastric bypass surgery. Funny, and full of great tips. http://www.basilwhite.com/gastric/ Here's to losing some more weight. Janice Poole
