Newbie!
Hello! My name is Jessica and I had open RNY on April 7th, I am doing great, although my initial recovery period was very difficult. My pre-surgery weight was 484, he did not say I had to lose anything but I did my best to drop a few pounds and lost about 6 so I guess at surgery I weighed 479. I have lost 81lbs, as of my last appointment, which was a couple of weeks ago and seem to be losing at about a 1lb a day. I have been walking as much as I can stand which is 1/4 of a mile twice a day. It is I suppose both a plus and a minus that we cant weigh till our appointments, I would like to know how I am doing, and my next appointment is not until August 11th. I too am looking forward to my future! Isnt it great to feel hope again?
Jessica, WOW!! 81 lbs. I am sooooo impressed! That's great that you are walking. I have to admit I haven't done much exercise. It is hard to break that sedentary cycle I am so used to. I have just started going to Curves 3 times a week, but I can only do about half of a circuit at this point. I still have very little energy, but am going to keep plugging away at the gym as I am sure this is the key to rebuilding that energy/strength. About the weighing thing, one of the other posters said she bought a scale on Amazon.com which would weigh us, so I checked that out this weekend and found about 5 or 6 choices from about $39 up, as I recall. I was under the impression you'd have to spend a couple of hundred to get one to weigh over 400, but you don't really have to spend that much. Of course, with your fantastic weight loss, you would probably have even more choices.
Keep up the good work! You go, girl!!
Hi Vicki,
Welcome and congrats on your weight loss AND feeling bones you never thought you had or remembered having!!!
I too had to lose 25 lbs. before my surgery so I could have the Lap RNY, I ended up losing 29 lbs. so that brought me to 348. I am now at 318. My rebirthing day was April 26th. I have had only one dumping incident, which was on pea's oddly enough...won't be eating anymore of them for a while!!
This forum is a wonderful way to get answers and meet friends who are going through the same things we all are...it's been a great help to me pre op and post op also.
