Six weeks since surgery
Everything is going better than I expected. I have lost 60 lbs. I can only handle 2 maybe 3 meals a day. It's a real effort to get the fluid in because of my work schedule but I manage to do it. I really hate crushing pills. Some of them are so nasty tasting. I start solid foods today. I have already experienced what occurs when you eat too fast or something doesn't agree with you. What a great deterrent!!! I am so careful what I eat because I fear getting sick from it. It's a huge adjustment from my former eating habits of eating too fast and too much. All in all, I am glad that I made the decision to do this since the goal is to lose weight and the surgery has already proven to be a wonderful tool.
Oh my gosh!! 60lbs!! That is amazing. Congrats!! I had my surgery one day after you =) I agree.. crushing pills stunk. I'm glad I don't have to take any more of them. All I have now are my chewable vitamins.
I found that if I crushed a pill.. put it in a tablespoon and then added some water and crystal light to it I could get it down before tasting the bitterness.
Congrats Angela. At almost 2 mos, I'm down about 55lbs. I'm hungry ALL the time but eating makes me sick. So far I've discovered that fat is not my friend. Whether it's mayonnaise or sour cream, I have to cut most of it out. It's hard to chew enough when I'm hungry and I still find myself too cautious about eating out because I don't want to puke in a restaurant bathroom. I'm hoping that finding out about fat was enough to get me eating more foods

60 LBS is GREAT! and at six weeks. I am at 7weeks and have lost 81 lbs. I eat for small meals aday...fortunately I only take a few small small pills and although I couldnt swallow pills until about a week ago I am not having any trouble now. The main problem I have is the Flinstones Chewable vitamins. For some reason they make me sick to my stomach for at least an hour. I am going to look into some other options. Does anyone know of a good multivitamin that is smaller that a horse pill? LOL. Truly if anyone knows of one please email me or let me know. I would really appreciate it. I have experienced the same thing....you learn to be oh so careful at bite size and speed. I am still struggling with eating too fast...I had no idea how fast I ate....I too am very happy with my decision to have the surgery.
Hi Jessica,
I had RNY 7 weeks ago. I have used Centrum Chewables since the second week after surgery. This is not for toddlers. These vitamins are for 9 year olds to adults. They are orange flavored and break up very easily in your mouth. I take them with about 1-2 ozs of orange juice to help absorption. This was approved by the nutritionist thru my surgeons office. I have had no problems with this. This vitamin plus the B-12 that I take once a week has added a great amount of energy. Prior to adding the vitamins I felt like a ragdoll !! Hope this helps. As of today I have lost 39 lbs and 19 inches. I am 4' 10.5" and started out at 283 lbs. Good luck to you.

Hi Everyone, I had surgery on April 4th, 2005. At the time of surgery, I weighed 268. Today's date, June 11, 2005, I now weigh 232. It seems like forever for me to lose lots of weight fast. My Dr. and Hospital here in Michigan suggests I use a post bariactric vitamin from Walgreens. By taking this vitamin, it lets me elimate taking scores of other supplements.

I can't stand Flintstones
Congratulations on your loss! I had LAP/RNY on April 15, 2005 (tax day) and have lost 72 pounds. I feel great and can actually cross my legs without having to tye my foot to a chair to keep it from flying off my knee! Even with all the sagging skin its still better than the skin I was in. Luckly I have had a smooth time as far as tolerating foods. Ive only puked 2 times and both times were totally my fault for shoveling food into my mouth like a trucker and not chewing good enough! Im just thankful I took the step to have WLS because it has saved my life! No more medication and feeling like Im going to die! So I say: Welcome Wrinkles! Bring on the flabby skin! I'll be wearing it proudly!
