Stuck in 2-Week Plateau
HI to all, I am six weeks out tomarrow and have only lost about 30 pounds. I say ONLY but with out the surgery I would've never lost 30 pounds. I see other people lose so much more by this point, it's hard not to get down about it. Everyone loses at different paces, my doc also says I am right on track. Also, the slower you lose, the more likely you are to keep it off, so I here. Everyone has always told me, when the scale stops moving then your not eating enough. Your body goes into starvation mode and stores everything it can. So pick up the protein and cut out the carbs. I am not sure how much fat grams we're supposed to have but I would keep it to a minimum and concentrate on the protein. Good luck and happy losing.

I am 7 weeks postop and have only lost 24 pounds, apx. My doctor told me not to count calories, but I got so upset about not loosing more I stared counting them just to be sure about how much I'm taking in. I am taking in between 650 - 800 calories. Is that too much? I wasn't able to exercise much for the first 4 weeks as my knees are in very bad shape and I was walking with a walker. The doctor gave me permision to ride an exercise bike and swim at 4 weeks so my exercise is improving. I'm really grateful for this forum with so much experience from everyone.

I had surgery the same day as you did & am down 28lbs. I'm overjoyed.
Remember, everyone loses at her own speed (plus it often depends where you started as to how quickly you'll lose) & maybe you want to do what I do -- I weigh once every 3-4 weeks. That way you don't see the ups & downs as much.
Best of luck,
A
Hi, I am 5 weeks post-op and have lost 45lbs as of today. I am thrilled. One of the things I do is to weigh in every couple of days. Every day of ups and downs can be depressing. I have also been sick alot and I still cant eat much. Meat is pretty much out. I do eat 1/2 an Atkins morning bar for breakfast and can finally eat some salad with a couple of bites of chicken. My nutritionist told me that we should be taking in 500-600 calories per day until we reach goal. Hope this helps. I really havent been eating fat either.
Thanks, Jessica-- I checked and I'm averaging only about 20-25 g per day, so I'm ok by your doctor's guidelines. I'm not really eating "fat" per se, just counting what's in meat and dairy products I'm supposed to be consuming anyway. My doctor doesn't ask us to count calories or fat, just eat 2-3 oz of protein, some cooked veggies, and some canned fruit per meal (3 meals). AND, update-- I AM losing again. I have lost an additional 7 lbs this past week, for a total of 41 lbs. Plateaus are the pits, but they do end!
