Stuck in 2-Week Plateau
Hi everyone! I am six weeks out, down 34 lbs., but have been stuck going back-and-forth with the same 2 lbs. for almost 2 weeks. Does anyone know or have guidelines about the number of fat grams we should be taking in each day? I am using fitday.com, and it always shows my fat intake to be about the same as my protein intake. I have the feeling that's too much fat. What does your doctor/nutritionist say about fat? Any other suggestions? I'm getting enough fluid and some exercise, and my protein intake is pretty good.
I am 6 weeks out also, I am only on soft foods which I have a very hard time tolerating. I get most of my protein from liquids and the fat intake is little to none. How are you taking in so much fat?? My calorie intake is between 500-600 per day, I did go for 10 days and only lost 1 pound but I was struggling to get in all of my liquid and protein. Since I have returned to work and on a more normal schedule I plan my day better for liquid and protein and my weight loss has continued. I am down 46 pounds.

I hear you. I am only down 27 lbs and its been 5 weeks. I am exercising my butt off in the gym and not taking in too much fat and have only gone down 2 lbs in 2 weeks (and yep its the same 2...). I haven't done as well on water and protien as I probably could so maybe that is stalling my progress. I really am only taking in 600-700 calories a day so maybe I need to focus on taking in less?? I am frustrated too My doctor says Im on track but somehow I feel like my weight loss isnt as good as it should be..
Congrats on the weightloss!
I had my surgery on 4/11/05 and am also down 34 lbs!
I have not plateaued yet, but am wondering what are you doing for activity?
My doc doesn't have me counting fats and carbs. They just said to focus on the protein and try to get 70 grams of that in daily. Our rule of thumb....eat protein first, veggies second and if you still have room then you can have some other stuff. It's working so far.

What are you eating? I had my WLS on 4/4 and I'm down 51lbs as of yesterday. Carbs are the kiss of death. Potatoes, pasta, rice and breads will put you in weight gain or plateau. I've found going back to basics, sticking no very low carbs and high protein breaks the cycle. The weight loss has been so scary that sometimes I'll do carbs just to see it not go down for a few days.
Yeah- I'm not allowed to eat carbs of that type at all yet. My doctor has us on a schedule- week 7 & 8 (where I am now) is protein (any type) first (2-3 oz), then cooked veggies (1/2 cup limit) and then canned fruit (1/2 cup limit). I never eat all of that, and I'm not really hungry. I do well with my water, and I am getting 60 grams of protein or close to it per day. But it seems meat or poultry of any kind comes up with so much fat on my "fitday" chart! We don't count calories or fat or carbs either, but entering it on "fitday" calls my attention to it. My total calories are never more than 600, usually less.
I had a bout with anemia about two weeks ago, which sidelined me as far as exercise for a little while. I'm just now getting back to it, so maybe that is what is wrong. Also, I realize that your "original" weight has something to do with it too- I started at BMI 39.5, so maybe slower is normal. But I just get discouraged when the ol' needle doesn't move!
I'll try more exercise this weekend and see if it helps! Thanks, all, for your help-
Gail
I am so glad we have this forum! I had my surgery 4-1-05 and have lost 31 pounds and am struggling with the same 1 or 2 pounds for over a week. I was just beginning to feel like this isnt going to work for me and then I read this post and it makes me feel better. I am able to eat EVERYTHING! I have been using FitDay and I get about 900-1100 cal per day of which about 70-100 grams is protein. I try to eat my carbs as veggies with maybe 2 or 3 crackers a week. I drink at least 64 oz. of fluid daily. My exercise could be better but I am joining Curves next week so that should increase my activity. I know we all want to be one of the people who lose quickly but we just have to be patient with our bodies. After all, when was the last time we lost 30 pounds in 6 or 7 weeks(lol). Thanks for being there!

I am so very glad to have found this forum. I've been hanging out on the California board but really needed to hear from others in my same boat. I am 5 weeks out today and I've only lost about 25 lbs. My doctor says I'm on the right track as well. However, its been frustrating when I read about so many people who have lost so much more in the same time. I'm exercising and getting in my recommended protein. Like some of you, I can pretty much eat whatever I want. I have had very few problems. Silly as it sounds, honestly, I have found myself a bit envious of those who just can't stand food or have a hard time ingesting most things.
I guess it is just about trusting the process.
