I've been reading through the recent posts and I see that lots of folks are having the same problem I am in getting in the protein. Like many of you, I had no problems drinking the shakes before surgery, but post op they make me gag! I've tried every kind of "shake" recipe I can find with no luck. So, today I tried something else and am very happy with it! Hopefully it will help some of you as well. I bought a box of sugar free/fat free chocolate jello instant pudding mix. I added 2 scoops of vanilla protein powder and a little bit of equal to the pudding mix before I added the milk. I used non fat milk. It tastes good! Now, maybe I can come a little closer to getting in my protein!

Cheryl, This sounds yummy! I guess I am one of the lucky ones as far as shakes go. My surgeon and his partners recommend ProComplex or ProRated. I love the chocolate ProComplex and mix two scoops with 4 ounces of water and a few ice chips and blend it all in my new Magic Bullet. I LOVE this shake and it has 55g of protein. My daughter, her boyfriend, and my ex also drink ProComplex every morning and they drink it for the protein, not for dieting. I am also now eating chicken, tuna, eggs, cheese, and salmon. I get in lots of protein every day. Judy

I'm sort of like a broken record about this -- but if anyone wants to go the pudding route, The STALLONE HIGH PROTEIN PUDDING has 20g of protein, 2g of fat (0.5 saturated), 0 sugar, and 300mg of potassium. Your recipe sounds like a good solution as well -- I'm just too lazy. It has been a main source of protein for me. It is sold at GNC and also on line (I buy it by the case. Regards, Marla (4/21/05)

Hi Marla, I've never heard of this. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

I only use unflavored Unjury in Crystal Light, and I'm still drinking this twice a day, for 40 grams of protein. I like it well enough, and I'm not at all sick of it at 6 weeks out. Immediately post-op, I alternated Unjury with Isopure, and I quickly had my fill of that - blech! I found that I was never able to tolerate a milk-based shake at all, and found the pudding to be too filling.

I am 6 weeks post-op and everything makes me sick!! I bought hood carb countdown chocolate milk and I love it !!! I start me day with 16 oz while I am getting ready for work. That gives me 24oz of protein and 16 oz of liquid. I also drink protidiet that I buy from my surgeon's office it has 15g of protein and you mix it with 5oz of water the flavors are fruity so that helps !! My nut also suggested adding a tablespoon of peanut butter to the shake for a different flavor(peanut butter is on my soft food list) that is good but very rich and I use the low carb kind!! I have not been able to do a shake since before surgery!!

I have the same problem as you with protein drinks. They make feel sick to my stomach and i have to lay down. I went to the doctor thursday and he said i dont have to drink them anymore. He said i can get my protein from food. I havent been sick on nothing i eat. I am so glad i dont have to have that yucky protein drink anymore. You need to talk to your doctor about it. My doctor said i was having some dumping with my protein drink. Yeah! No more protein drink for me. I wish you well. Maybe you can get your protein from food too.
