I'm 4 weeks post op today and I've lost 24lbs(drs scale says that...mine says 27 lbs lol) plus 9lbs gained in the hospital. I'm THRILLED but...yep always a but huh? A little background...I've been cleared to eat regular food...was taken off protein drinks( doc only has us on them for the first month)....my nutritionist doesn't give us numbers of calories, fats, proteins to go by,she simply said to eat protein first always, which i do. I eat between 2 and 2 1/2 oz 3 times a day since no snacks is also part of my drs orders. Now here's the problem...I'm about 5 days late for my time of the month and I've been losing and gaining back the same 2 lbs for about that long. Anybody else experience this??? I'd hate to think I've already hit a plateau this early out! Cathy

Your body is adjusting to the changes taking place. I went for 2 weeks without anything happening, very upsetting! At 6 weeks out Ive only lost 30 pounds which is depressing considering others have lost more, however my surgeon says I am right where he wants me to be so that made me feel better. His nurse felt I had lost too much, and thought he might want me to slow down some. I am walking 2 miles a day, and sometimes the scales will move at least 7 pounds a whack and other times not budge. Im suppose to be eating between 4 to 6 ounces a meal right now. I do good to get in 3 ounces and I just started regular food this week. I steer clear of the scales. When the scales did not move, I noticed my clothes were getting baggier, sometimes we are loseing inches instead of pounds so try measuring yourself when you do not see the scales moving and see if this happening. Hugs, Sandy

Hi Cathy! I am singing the same song different verse! I have lost 34 lbs total (23 lbs since surgery) And I gained 12 lbs while in the hospital. My docs food orders seem to be the same as yours... but I cheated and started eating regular food early. I have not had any complications, no burping, no frothing, no hicuups, no nausea, no puking, no gas, no diahrea..ext NO PROBS... "Aunt Flow" showed up about 8 days early after I left the hospital. on 4/23 (have read that was due to heparin shots while in the hospital) But I havnt had a period since. I have PMS... but no flow.. I dont know if my body is going to go back to old schedule or follow a new one, but after a week plateau and slow loss since, I am hoping it has somehting to do with Aunt Flow and all will pick up/even out soon. Good luck to you! Christy

The only thing I've had is a piece of chicken get stuck once( my guess is it was too dry) and I had some nausea when I ate banana. Other then that I've been complication free and have had no problem eating anything else I've tried. I do feel PMSie and I'd kill for a Reeses Peanut Butter cup( lol my old "cure" for PMS). I think I'm going to have to hide the scale and only weigh myself on the 22nd of every month for my monthly surgery date. I can see how this could drive a person slowly insane! Cathy

I think aunt flow is crazy after surgery. I am 5 weeks out today....and i just now got mine.....about 1 1/2 weeks late. I hope to drop several pounds when it is over. Also when I did get mine it was very heavy....much more than I usually have.

Hi Cathy, I'm almost 6 wks post op and ran into the same thing you did. My weight loss halted for about 2 wks and is now very slowly moving again. My period was due during this time and wound up being about 8 days late. It was heavier than normal and the cramps were awful. I ended up taking pain meds to get through it. Now that it is over, my weight has dropped a measly pound. I am hoping that it will pick up over the next week. I was losing very rapidly up until this point in time. If I have to go through this every month - its going to take forever to lose this weight! I am at the lowest weight I've been for about 5 years, I gues****ting a plateau is normal after losing so much. Hang in there, I posted a message on this same topic when I was so frustrated - I received a ton of emails from others who had the same thing happen. I think I need to start looking at my weight loss on a monthly basis now instead of a weekly. Its just too darn depressing to lose and gain the same 2-3 lbs over and over each week. Good luck, Linda B
