My doctor starts you on B-12 SHOTS at your 2 month visit. I'm not sure why they feel the shots are better than the sublinguals, but for now, I'm just going to go with the flow. I won't start the shots until mid-June. I don't see the harm in taking B-12 right now though, if you're so inclined. There are LOTS of people who take it and have never had WLS. MJ

I started mine back, 1 week post op. One sublingual daily. I had started them at 3 months pre op, and on the day of surgury I had a HIGH B12 level. I will be 6 weeks out tomorrow and I still have a high B12 level. My iron is low and this is the reason why I have no energy but I am working on getting it back up. Ask your surgeon what your B12 level is and if it is okay to take them. Hugs, Sandy

Hi Julie! I also started taking sublingual B complex with B-12 at 1 week post op, along with chewable multi vitamins (two a day), and a chewable vitamin C. I will have my 1 month anniversary this week and I haven't had any trouble with being weak or fatigued. I had open RNY. Hope that helps! Tera

Isn't it funny how surgeons are so different on their beliefs when performing the same surgery?? My surgeon had me start the B-12 before surgery and then again one week after. I take one sublingual once a week along with my vitamins and one prilosec. Calcium comes at 3 months.

About six weeks in, I started on B-12 sublingual a week. When I started pureed foods (3 weeks out) I started 2 multi vitamins and three calcium chews a day. Greg 342/273/178

Julie - On the no energy, I have read from different support groups that our body is in the "Hibernating Mode" and it is expected time to go thru as the body is realizing that its not getting as much calories as it used to before the surgery. I was going thru this for about a week and half, and I just got back my energy on Sunday the 15th. I am a month out Today as a matter of fact and I've got so much energy now then I did before the operation. I now get up between my bites at meals and walk around the living room and thru the bedroom and then I sit back down and have another bite and back I go.... I have been told that is what is going on with our bodies right after this Big Surgery and its expected, so I would say just bare with it for another week and then I would go see your surgeon if you don't come out of it. Hang in there you will over come it....tla

I started taking B12 pre-OP just to get myself ready for surgery. I took all my batraitricadvantage.com vitamins pre-op. Initally I was only taking it once a week. Now I take half a pill (500) every day. That along with exercise and now being able to get in more balanced meals at 6 weeks post op has helped with my energy level. At three weeks I was still exhasuted too.
