hey Everyone I had surgery on 04-04-05 and so far I'm only down about 27 pounds. I'm getting a little frustrated these days because it seems to have slowed down dramatically. I've seen a lot of people smaller then myself at about 10 pounds more progress then myself... Am i doing something wrong? I always wonder to myself. Being heavy my whole life my biggest fear has been that I will be the only one who stalls out at 250 and never loses another pound! Silly fear but I feel like maybe I'll never be thin. Anyone else have these fears? Anyone else loosing at this slow of a pace? This week I'm starting solids, I've done very well with Soft foods but never eat more then my portion and many things like meats I can only eat about an ounce before i'm done. Thanks for listening!

Tiffany, I know what you are feeling. I am at 27-28 pounds lost and my surgery was on 4-18-05. I get scared a lot and I know in my head that the weight will continue to decrease but the heart remembers all the endless weigh-ins where I didn't lose or gained and I wanted to crawl home and eat a pint of Ben & Jerry's. We can and will do this. I am on solids and the eating is slow. When I was on soft solids, I at least got in 5-8 green beans after 3-4 oz. of protein but now I am doing great just to get in the protien. Are you exercising? I hit about 3 days a week. Not near what I would like but I am very busy with work and community activities. Have you been to a support group meeting yet? I would suggest you go and hear from others. I am sure you are not alone in your area too. I am going to my first next weekend. Good luck and keep me posted... Bryna

Hi Tiffany, I know just how you feel. I had my surgery on the 5th of April and, as of today, am down 20.5 lbs from the day of surgery. I am seeing a lot of changes in my size though. My waist has shrunk by 3.25 inches and I'm wearing pants that have been in my closet for ages. I did ask my nutritionist about the lack of weight lost and she said that because of the protein and the exercise that I am getting, I probably am replacing fat with lean (don't you like that word?) muscle mass which weighs more than fat. I think that we just have to trust that, if we are following the rules and guidelines set by the doctor, that the weight will come off in due time. Keep on keeping on - it'll work. Cele

Nahh -- never have those fears... HA HA. I have the same fear of stalling out. I had surgery on 4/21/05 and have lost about 17 lbs. I recently read about one of NY's congressmen, Jerry Nadler, who seems to have only lost 68 lbs. That freaked me out. He went down only to the high 200's and he is 5'4".... I'm jealous of all of you. I had my surgery 4/4/05 and have only lost 16#. And I'm only eating 500cal/day and exercising. Boohoo, now i'm really bummed.

Well you are not alone I lost 45 lbs, having surgeryonthe 11th of april, and I gained 15 in water weight. talk about bummed? but I know as soon as I can start to sweat, it will all fall off and I will be on my way to health. I think being obese all of our lives, we just automatically condition ourselves to think a certain way. I had to be reassured by my surgeon that I will not fail and it is vertually impossible to do so. Unless of course I radially cahnge back to my old way of eating whilch I refuse to do. You will be fine and keep up the good work. God Bless your journey/ Rae

Hello, My surgery was 4/13 and I'm only down 25 pounds since surgery, almost all of that was in the first 2 1/2 weeks. I've been bouncing up 5 pounds for the last 2 weeks. I got really depressed last week after not seeing the scale go down day after day. I received some great emails from others that have been through a slow down around this time period. I guess its not all that uncommon after losing 25 lbs for the body to need an adjustment time. Thankfully I did take my measurements a few weeks ago and I am still losing inches despite no pounds. Eventually the scale will move, for now we just need to try to not let it control us too much. Do you feel like your getting thinner? Linda

I feel the same way! I was just talking about this with my co worker and she said " have you asked any of your message board about their progress?" and lo and behold here I am. I had my surgery on 4/18 and I am down about 24-25 lbs. I totally am scared too that I will be the only one this doesn't work for and that I will stall. For the first 2 weeks I lost 18 lbs and the last 2 weeks have been crawling. I have been exercising too and I know with the muscle replacing fat, weight wise it takes awhile to catch up. I know this in my head but my heart is fearful I read someones profile a few days ago and she too was having this issue and then after about the second month the weight came off in leaps and bounds and she ended up being under her goal weight and was trying to gain (I cant even IMAGINE that !). I guess our bodies are adjusting and its going to take time for the body to realize its not going to get that food anymore and it will start to let go. My hubby gets pissed because I am on the scale 2 times a day and he keeps telling me that Im gunna get myself all fired up over something out of my control. He also worked out a little math for me of calories burned at my current weight just resting vs calories consumed (because we all have heard it a million times, weight loss comes from less calories in than out) and really I am not anywhere near taking in 2500+ calories a day. You just have to think of it that way and it will help a little hopefully. Good luck! we are all in this together!!! Elizabeth 4/18/05 Dr. Waldrep 263/239/150

. Hi Tiffany Mine was 4/6/05 - I am down 27 pounds post-op, and I had lost 11 pounds pre-op, for a total of 38 pounds. I feel I am losing slow too - but I keep telling myself it's a hell of a lot more than I could have done on my own dieting!!!! How about comparing losses -- I wonder if the weekly ones are the same: Week 1 -- 7 pounds Week 2 -- 7 pounds Week 3 -- 1 pound (boy did I freak!!!!!) Week 4 -- 2 pounds Week 5 -- 8 pounds Week 6 (so far) -- 2 pounds Dayna 310/272/110
