Hey Nikki-
I am right in there with you chica!!! I exercise 3 times a week not because I have the energy to but because I know I HAVE to.
I am still dragging. My surgery was on 4-18 and I am still zonked when I come home at night from work. (and I sit at a desk most of the day) Your body has undergone MAJOR surgery. You are still working through the lingering effects of anesthesia, the drugs and the fact that your body is still having to haul you around but on less than 1/4 the calories you used to eat. If you are like me, you are eating somewhere between 400-600 calories a day. I swear I could eat that many calories as a snack before the surgery (can anyone say king sized m&Ms???)
I have been told by others who were in our early post-op stages that we start to feel like ourselves in about 6-8 weeks.
Hang in there and keep me posted on your progress.
Bryna
Hey Nikki,
I went thru the no energy stage at about 3 to 4 weeks out. Felt like someone had pulled the plug on me and drained me dry. It lasted about a week or so and now I am feeling much better. I asked my surgeon about it because I felt so dang good the first 3 weeks after surgery and he said that it is quite normal for this to happen. Hang in there it does get better but a call to your doc never hurts!!!! You might need to have him check your iron or it could be nothing but the recovery process.
Hi Nikki
We are the same day surgery! -- I too am still dragging. I am going back to work tomorrow and dreading it!! And short walks wipe me out quickly. Certainly more than before the surgery. I think it is normal to be tired at this point -- we are still adjusting to the changes and healing from major surgery (as one of my doctors said, "You may have little boo boo's on the outside, but you still had major surgery with big boo boo's on the inside")
I must remember to take the B12 sub lingual. I will watch for replies to this post -- I could use the help too.
Warm regards,
Marla!
You get your energy from B12 vitamins. I started on mine, 3 months pre op, and my levels are still in the HIGH category. I take one daily, pre op, I was doing 2 a day to build myself up. I still have low energy but Ive learned I have a really low iron level (borderline anemic) so now I am working on getting this up and I am feeling stronger everyday. I also started sublingual Biotin, 3 months pre op, with my B12. The Biotin is to help minimize hair loss, and it works, my hair has just done beautifully. Much stronger, shiner, thicker and grows like a weed!
Hugs,
Sandy
Hi Nikki
As Sandy said, the B12 is an energy source -- I was told to take it once a week sublinqual. They said it would not be harmful to take it more often as whatever is excess will leave your body. Some people get B12 injections -- I assume they are stronger. Every surgeon has different protocol and guidelines. I have found that I hear something on the boards here and question my surgeon's office about, and they say, "Sure, there's nothing wrong with doing that."
