4 weeks out and needing some advice...
i had my surgery on 4-18-05 and am needing some advice until this week i had been able to tolerate soft foods and full liquids and such very well, however starting this week i get a tablespoon of anything and after that i get that sharp pain that says i'm done ... and my stomach hurts all the time as does the muscles in my whole body. All i wanna do is sleep that seems to amke me feel better but once i'm up and i am hungry i try a tablespoon of something else and its the same thing all over... is anyone else having this problem or had this problem i dunno what to do and its makeing me very upset.
thanks ,
Danielle
Hi Danielle,
I had my surgery 1 week before you and I am having the same problem with soft foods!! I would rather just drink liquids because it doesnt make me sick!! I am having problems getting in all of my protien and liquids I am tired all of the time and I go back to work on Monday. I wonder if I will ever be able to eat anything ever again!! Last night my mom brought me chili from wendy's because it sounded so good, I had 2 bites and the pain started I ate 2 saltine crackers even though I know they have no befefit for me they settled my stomach. About 3 hours later I was hungry and tried some more and it went down fine !! I can't imagine getting the sick feeling at work I wonder how many times I will have to go home once I get back!!! I just keep thinking it has to get better!!! I keep wondering if I will need to have a dialation (SP??) if the opening into my new stomach or into my intestines has healed too much and gotten too little they have to go in and open it up some. I have a 5 week check up with my surgeon on Monday maybe he will have some answers!!

I had the same problem..I seemed to get worse later on. It may be that soft foods are still too new. I went back to full liquids for 1/2 day and that helped. I am now 5 1/2 weeks out and feeling much better about eating but I still get a pain in my pouch with soft foods if I eat too fast..and it doesnt seem fast to me!! Ask your surgeon and if nothing is wrong, just wait..it takes TIME TO HEAL.

I am having periods of this too. I can sometimes feel a little pain and I am sure that is where my staple lines, they feel like little pin*****s in my tummy. I noticed meats started this, so now I am sticking to moist salads like chicken and tuna on a saltine and it hasnt happened so far. I get full really quick and if I pu**** I feel nauseated so I dont push anything. I stop when I am full, regardless. With the sleeping I wonder if you are not having some mild form of dumping.. I havent dumped, but Ive read you get very sleepy afterward... watch what you eat and see if it makes you sleepy. Keep a journal and see if it happens with certain foods or just any food, you may not be able to tolerate certain foods now, like you could before, just a thought..
Hugs,
Sandy
I too am having this. For some reason, eggs are really a problem. The pain in my chest can get so unbearable I have to lie down to let it pass. I am also still napping during the day as well. I go back to work on Wednesday and I'm worried it I'll make it though a full 8 hours. I also have a sensation in my chest when I'm eating, like I'm swallowing air.
