so many different amounts people can eat after surgery
Hello
Im Patty and I dont post often but I do read alot to help me along. Im three weeks out tomarrow and Im still only having two tablespoons per meal.
I read some are less time than me and are already on a 1/4 cup per meal.Im guessing all Dr's are different.
I walk every day again now and started back walking after my two week visit last thursday.Im already walking the two miles I did before surgery with no problems at all.
I have lost about 12 lbs since surgery. that is the only thing that really worries me . not counting the 20lbs I lost the first 4 days after surgery from fluid iv's in the hospital.
I know coming of slow is better.. but doesnt it frustrate anyone else?
god bless
Hi Patty,
There is nothing wrong with the amount you are eating. I am just starting my 6th week and I still can only eat about 2 tablespoons. It actually depends on what it is. If you are on soups you probably could take in more than if you are eating solids. Everyone is different and there are alot of different doc's out there with different eating levels and how quickly you get to progress.
Congrats on your weight loss! Just think you will never have to lose that weight again! I gained 6 lbs after surgery from the IV's and you can bet that I count that 6 lbs right in with the rest of my pounds lost. I still had to take them off! LOL
Good luck to you on your journey. You are doing well. Also remember that the weight a person has to lose the quicker they will lose it. Don't measure your success by what someone else is doing and you will be alot happier! God Bless!
Patty,
I had my surgery on 4.11.05 & it took me a while to begin to eat 1/4 cup. I now eat 1/2 cup per meal; however, I have it in what I call 2 sittings. I eat part of it and then part an hour or two later. It all depends on how large the dr. made your connection (or pouch, I guess for RNY). I wouldn't be concerned & I know it's easy to say try & not be frustrated but perhaps if you weighed once every 3 or 4 weeks (I don't know how often you weight) you'd be able to feel a bit less frustrated as well. BTW, I have heard your weight loss may be affected by what your original size was on your surgery date.
Best of luck,
A
