Frustrated!
Just finished reading the weight losses of some of you who had the surgery around me (4/21/05). The first week I lost about 8-1/2 lbs, and this week NOTHING. Two weeks = 8-1/2 lbs. I have already been yelled out for worrying about it, so don't bother. How can one have this done and NOT worry about not losing weight? I was one of the rare ones who woke up from surgery hungry and it is still not completely gone. They put me on pureed food by the 5th day out. Grrrr.

Marla,
I am feeling some frustration as well. It is like you want to it all off right now because you have done so much to lose the weight and you feel as if you have given up so much to lose the weight. So why is the weight still there. Just think that it did not come on overnight and it is not going to leave overnight. Losing 8.5 lbs is good just think you didn't lose that before the surgery. Just keep up the good work and try not to let it stress you. If you need to talk email me at [email protected]
Hi Marla,
I can relate. I had surgery on April 4th of this year and have only lost 16 pounds = 4 weeks. The doctor's office told be to be patient and weigh only once a week. I want to see the weight go away!! Now I'm srtuggling with those aweful tasting protein shakes and can't seem to find one that doesn't gag me.
I guess I'm letting the insurance battles get to me. They have rejected the claims pending more doctors notes. I found this out yesterday and it just puts me in a blue funk.
Hang in there Marla. It's got to work.

Mara,
I feel the same exact way, worrying if I will lose the weight... and I have been.... and I also felt hungry when I came home from the hospital thinking I wouldn't survive on jello, broth, water and diet snapple... but it has passed and now I am onto trying to just keep food down. Just take one day as it comes and certainly wouldn't let someone yell at you for worrying about it.
It is NORMAL to stall a bit after surgery. I stalled my 3rd and 4th week. Call your surgeon if you need more advice. I called him a few times my first month. They are used to it and can offer you good advice.
Do NOT compare your weight losses to others. When I do that, I get all down and depressed. Each one of us is different, so we lose differently. I've lost 54 lbs in two months, while others have lost 70 lbs in that same time frame, and others have lost 40. We are all different. It'd be great if we were all the same, but we aren't.
Your body is in shock from the surgery and will release more pounds soon. Call your surgeon if you are really worried. That's why he's there!

May I ask do you walk everyday? Do you get in your water and protein? I am in need of all the help I can get. I am 3 weeks out and down 20 lbs but I am not getting in enough protein or water but I am trying. Please give me any advise that you can. I would appreciate it greatly!
Blessings,

Okay, your first month out, you will not even come close to getting all the protein and water in. Don't even stress about that. I did. I was like, OMG, I'm only getting in about 500 cals a day, how can I do this? The first few weeks after surgery, don't focus on NUMBERS at all. Focus on protein and water and do what you can to get what you can in, but don't OD on it. Your pouch is healing and can only take so much. Down the line you'll be able to get more in. Trust me. I was so worried about that for weeks, but was reassured that the first month after surgery I just need to heal myself. Focusing on numbers come NOW (2 mos after surgery).
I try to walk at LEAST 10 minutes every day. Whether it be just around my office (work on a large company floor) or to the mailbox at home (down the road). I exercise (currently walking or dancing in the dark to music - ) 3-4 times a week for 30-40 mins a time right now.
On some days I'm great with water and other days I'm not. A usual day for me is about 60-70oz of water and when I work out I increase it by about 20 oz or more. I should be getting a LOT more water in though right now. But I'm working on it.
Hang in there, Samaria!! You are doing great!
