3 Weeks Post-Op

Today is my 3-week anniversary and I am down 27.5 pounds! I am noticing it in my face, breasts (well, hubby noticed that first...typical man, right?) and clothing. My PJ's would fall off my hips if not for the elastic holding them barely there! It's so exciting. Overall, doing well. Still struggling with the pain in my right side. It comes and goes. Today is a good day where the pain is subsiding again and feeling very good. I have been to the gym twice this week and done 25 minutes on the treadmill and that seems to help that muscle pain. I am a diabetic and they took me off meds after surgery and sent me home saying that if my sugars consistently stayed below 200 I needn't use my medication. In the first week, they average in the 170's. The second week the 150's. This week, they are down into the 120's and 130's. That alone is worth the surgery! The diet is tough. Moving to pureed foods started out tough and I found myself vomiting a couple of times as I think I was eating too fast. The dietician had approved a couple of soft foods and those have not gone down well so am now avoiding them until next week when I'm officially completely cleared for soft foods. Thanks for listening! Christi Waterford, MI

Congrats on all that is going on after surgery. 27.5 pounds is a great accomplishment. I am also 3 week post-op (25 pounds lost). I am also having trouble reintroducing foods, even the pureed foods. I have only been able to keep down watery oatmeal, applesauce and cream of mushroom soup. Found out I am having trouble with anything that has over 6-8 grams of sugar including any milk like product. I haven't gotten brave enough to try soy milk yet. Let us both just keep trying and I know we will find things will work. I was told one day something will work and the next it may make you sick. Stick in there, the future hold wonderful surprises for us. Saying a prayer for you. Ellen

Thanks, Ellen. I met with the dietician today to go over the next stages and she did specifically tell me to avoid any food that had sugar over 5 grams. Sugar alcohols were Ok she said but sugar grams itself should be kept under 5. I have noticed too that when I eat over that threshold even slightly it makes me feel badly (though not with milk...I have been able to tolerate skim milk just fine with no repercussions). Congrats to you on your 25 pounds! Awesome! Keep up the great work and I will say a prayer for you as well. Christi Waterford, MI
