Hungry after surgery?

I have read so many posts these last few days that people are hungry after surgery. I was told the hunger feeling goes away for about 6-12 months. Anyone have any answers for me? I am a little confused.

For me, it isn't really hunger in the old, pre-op sense of the word. It's more an awareness that the pouch is empty. We're eating and drinking so often that the pouch almost never is empty, so when it is, I feel it. As I write this, I've been up an hour or so. Pre-op, I'd have torn up the kitchen by now. I can feel my pouch is empty, but I could go until noon and not eat anything and the first sign that I'd need to would be light-headedness. BUT, I am aware the pouch is empty.

I myself have not felt hungry at all. I do sometimes feel the empty feeling that Greg refers to but I try to eat every 3-4 hours like they are telling me. I have also noticed that I have no cravings either, like I used to, which for me is amazing and wonderful. I hope it doesn't go away because that it is helping it to be easier to avoid taboo foods that my family is still eating. Christi Waterford, MI

Oh I feel hungry and it sucks. I am like a little baby that needs to eat every 3-4 hours. I was hoping I wasn't hungry after (I am 9 days post op) I started getting hungry 4 days out. It doesn't help that I have 3 kids and a hubby whom I still need to cook for. Sorry i don't have any answers for you but I can tell ya i am hungry. Kristy

I am 3 1/2 weeks out and I don't really get hungry, just occasionally and mostly things don't taste good anyway....... you think they will and they don't or you don't feel good if you eat them. But beyond this time period someone else will have to answer. I was told eventually food starts to taste ok in several months.

Heather, I'm one month out Monday and I don't get hungry. It may be due to the fact that I am constantly drinking or eating something. Or it could be due to the amount of protien I'm taking in. I had heard or read something that if you take in a good amount of protien on a daily basis, hunger pains seem to lesson or go away. I know my cravings certainly have! I try to get in a minimum of 60 grams a day. D D

I am not sure if I am hungary, well I know it can't be hungar but I want something and I don't know what it is, I am a very picky eater and I crave things I never liked before I am not sure if it is because I know I can't eat a whole meal and crave that fullness or what because right now I am full (ate some fish) but I still want something and it is driving me insane!!
