Post op diet!
This diet really stinks. I am beginning to hate broth, jello, and juice! My follow up is not until Thursday and then I can add SF Carnation Instant Breakfast. (Which I have not been able to find locally). Stick with that for a week, then I can finally go to purees. I want to cheat so bad. Just a little lick of the fork/spoon of whatever my family is eating.......... Any helpful tips to get me through the next few weeks?
Thanks!
Nancy
I hear you. I can't find a protein I can stand. It's because it takes so long to drink them the after taste is just so horrible. I am getting down about 1 oz every 5 minutes, which I think is really good at this stage but that still takes me anywhere from 20-30 minutes to drink the four oz protein I am supposed to drink and I am supposed to do that 4 times a day, yuck! I am supposed to be on this for three weeks post op, I am only one week post op tomorrow, which means I still have 2 more weeks of nothing but liquids. I go to have my first post op appointment 4/29 and get the drained removed, sometimes the doctor advances the diet depending on the progress you have made so I am just hoping and praying that he will. Hang in there hun and take it one day at a time. I don't know if you can have them but one thing that I have found that I do like and makes me feel a little bit better is sugar free popsicles, and I mostly drink water when I am not drinking my protein.
I sure hope my doctor advances my diet. I've had absolutely no vomiting or nausea. Just getting grossed out on having the same stuff all the time. I haven't had the sugar free popsicles because I've never really liked cold stuff on my teeth. Maybe I ought to try it. I guess each doctor is different since protein drinks aren't allowed yet for me. Thank you!

I am with you....... I am 5 days out and I am so sick of broth, jello, juice and my liquid meds....... I feel like I have lost all my tastebuds...... nothing tastes good to me!!!!! at this point I am really afraid of getting dehydrated. I am trying real hard to choke down water and popcicles but it is just getting frustrating!!!! I am dying for some pudding or some baby food......
I am just really glad to know that I am not the only one feeling like this!!!
Thanks!
Nikki
No, you definately are not alone. I thought nothing tasted good because of being burned out on eating the same stuff every day. Anything else sounds good to me, even cream of whatever soups, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs or any other soft foods that we'll be able to eat in the puree' stage. I just can't wait!
Nancy
UGH - Well, you're not alone either. I am glad to hear that I am not crazy or something isn't terribly wrong. I cannot stand the things I am allowed to eat right now. I am happiest when I have coffee and water - otherwise, I have to literally MAKE myself eat the broth, shakes, jello - YUCK! I keep telling my Mom (who is staying with me) that I am going to live on water for the next wee****il my followup doctor's appointment on the 3rd. I am not a sweet thing fan to begin with, and everything I CAN have is sweet, so its just a battle every day. I finally found the Isopure protein drinks and bought 12 of them yesterday - got them home, tried them and UGH! - they taste terrible too! Mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs occupy my mind most days - something bland, but yummy. Counting the days till Stage 4!!! Doing very well otherwise.
I think I can.....I think I can......I think I can......(Keep telling myself that.)

I know what you are going through. My surgery was the 6th, and I wasn't even allowed ice chips for a little over two days. Then I was allowed 1oz of water every hour. The following day I got to have 2 oz. of water every hr. and the next day I graduated to 4oz.. Went home on clear liquids until my follow up on the 18th, and then got put on pureed foods. Now I'm sick of them. Crazy isn't it. My next appointment is on 5/16 and I can wait to add something new. Good Luck and don't move on to anything unless the dr. said it was ok. You surely don't want any problems after all of this. God Bless. Cathy D
I'm with you, Cathy. I could hardly wait to get out of the full liquids and into pureed foods. I thought if I drank one more protein shake I would lost my mind. I was in heaven the first day of pureed foods. Now, after a little over a week of that, I'm counting the days to soft food. Only a week more to go.
I just keep telling myself that every stage is going to have its challenges and I just have to suck it up and get through it. This is the best thing for me in the long run!
All I can say is......Please Follow The Diet!!!!I know what you're saying(I've been there!!!!!!!).This surgery is worth it!!! You will get through this tough part.Do not jeopardize your health!I'm just over 4 mos post op.I've lost 65 lbs.I'm off 6 of 7 meds.I did follow the diet as written. The hardest part for me was (and still is) not drinking with my meals.I understand why,but that doesn't make it easier.
I know that I didn't "answer" your question, but I wanted to STRONGLY SUGGEST for you to follow the diet.I've heard enough horror stories about people who "did their own thing"(not follow the diet)and paid a big price with their health.
Take Care,

I am 2 weeks post-op and got to go to a full liquid diet the day after I got home from the hospital and that includes low fat strained soups yougart s/f pudding and my protein drinks. They started pushing the 64 oz of liquid and 60 oz minimum of protein immediately. I know every surgeon is different but it amazes me on how much different they are !!! At week 3 I start soft food and never go to a puree stage thank god that sounds really bad!! hang in there this seems like the longest time but a few weeks is nothing compared to the rest of your life !! I bet you have lost a bunch too !! I am down 10 pounds since surgery, 5 pounds per week is just fine with me !! Best of Luck!!
