Not quite 3 weeks and I'm a bit frustrated
Had my surgery on the 5th and everything went quite well and now I feel really good - very little pain, just a little discomfort. I can finally sleep on my side, which is good.
For the past 3 days my weight has been the same. I am eating about 470-580 calories a day, including about 55 grams of protein, walk a mile a day and am drinking plenty of water. I am down 15.5 lbs from the morning of surgery. Maybe I shouldn't complain, but I didn't think that it would come to a standstill quite so quickly.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
I am 12 days post-op and down 5 pounds since the day of surgery. most of the long timers on here say that if you have not lost in 3-4 weeks you may have hit a plateau, I think you are doing great!! You know us women and how we hold our water, i am willing to bet that all of a sudden you will have a significant loss. I also try not to be a slave to the scale but just go by how I am feeling, and how loose my clothes are getting !!! I think you are a far cry from a standstill, maybe weigh in only once a week then you will see the loss and feel better about it. Best of Luck!!

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for your comments. My one pair of pants that I have been wearing for ages has now gotten to be too big and I have gone into the smaller size reserves that I have had for years - so I know it is working. I guess I am just being impatient and want everything to happen at once. It did take decades to get to this point, so I guess I can wait the year or two that it will take to reverse it.
Congratulations in your success and best wishes for your continued progress.
Thanks,
Cele
Throw that scale away or put it out of sight. From everything I have read, this is the worst thing to do is to weigh yourself too much, early on. My surgeon has me on 80 to 100gm of protein a day. I am one day ahead of you and granted it isnt easy getting it all in but I manage to get in 2 ISOPURE shakes a day with 50 gm protein in each. My downfall is getting in the water and getting out to walk everyday. The weather isnt cooperating here today. Im just down 18 pounds. We all loose at different rates and sometimes I feel like I shoud have lost more too but I think you are right on track.
I cant weigh often. I went up to 302 right before surjury from 295 and I threw my scales in the trash, out of frustration. I am tempted to buy some more but I am holding off on doing that right now. Im just going to try to keep getting in the protein and working on increasing water for now, with as much exercise as I can get in. Give it a shot and see if it helps.

Hi Sandy,
Thanks for the response. In the past, whenever I shunned the scale, I always gained an incredible amount of weight. Whenever I weighed myself on a daily basis, my weight seemed to be more stable. Maybe just seeing the increases in small incremental increase amount was easier to bear than the big gains when I hadn't been on the scale.
My husband has always been one to weigh himself on a daily (or twice daily) basis and he has been able to keep his weight at 165 (he's 6'3") for as long as I've known him (37 years.)
I will just have to have patience. With this tool though, the loss will take less time (by far) than the gain took.
Congratulations on your success. Sounds like you are doing great.
Thanks,
Cele
Well Cele, I will admit that thought has crossed my mind too. I am trying to give myself 3 months to adjust to this new way of life, then I thought I would purchase some scales and try to stay on top of my weight, so I dont mess around and end up gaining instead of loseing. I do know I will have to weigh more often in the future, right now I fight the urge to go across the street to Target and try out all their scales.
I had my surgery on 4/4 and I am down 15 pounds (13 since surgery) so you are doing ok. Remember you body can fill the fat cells with water and hold it awhile and if you think about 3500 calories less than you are eating to lose every pound, you have to be getting a lot of exercise or it will come off slowly. Multiply your weight by between 14 & 16 and that is what you burn staying alive...... so be patient. The weight went on way slower than the average that you are losing. It will take time.
Thanks for the response. I know that I need to be patient, but after having made the decision for the surgery and having it, I just want everything to go quickly. I know that "good things take time" and have often used that statement on other people. I just have to learn to be patient myself.
Sounds as if you are doing very well in your progress. Keep up the good work.
Thanks,
Cele
hi friend,
yes i am feeling the same way. i had mine the 5th also, i am down 28 pounds and havent lost any weight in 6-7 days. i did the same thing, thinking that i did all this and it isnt working. i talked with some friends on here and the doc's and they said that i will reach a stopping point several times in my journey and then just all of a sudden i will lose a whole bunch at one time. but most importantly.....stay off the scale everyday!!!!! i was weighing 4-5 times a day, complusive, i no!!! but we need to stay off the scale but once a wk. just keep up the good work and dont worry it will change soon. my doc told me i was lucky to lose that weight that fast, some dont even lose much in the first 6wks. just try to remember that one. you take care and try to relax.
take care,
dede
-28 pounds
Hi Dede,
Congratualtions on your success so far - 28 pounds is fantastic!
I know that I need to learn to be patient. I try to get other people to have patience, but I am apparently lacking in that virtue.
Having all of the comments on these boards to read has really been inspiring and I appreciate the openness that everyone has. If you need help, it is readily available.
Thanks for you comments, they are greatly appreciated.
Take care and best wishes for your continued progress.
