ok so yesturday i started the icky 10 days liquid diet thing . and i was very irritable and fussy all day. today i did well til about a half hour ago when i snuck 2 cheese and crackers. I feel like i am starving on this liquid diet and am having a very very hard time with it espically since my hubby and my son both still get to eat whatever and they do and right in front of me and it makes me very angry. But now i am angry with myself that i snuck the crackers and cheese. I am jsut wondering if i cant do this liquid diet thing for 2 days how can i go through with my surgery on the 18th and think things will be better then?

Dont be so hard on yourself. We are all simply human. My surgeon didnt put me on any liquid diet beforehand, but I put myself on one for 3 days prior to surjury. I wanted to be sure I was cleaned out well first of all, and cutting back helps decrease the size of the liver and the fat around it. As a standard measure I knew my surgeon would do a liver biopsy once he was in there so too I wanted my liver as healthy as I could get it. I did give in and eat something light 2 days before, I just tried to make healthy choices like grilled chicken and vegtables, in small portions, and only once. The closer my surjury date came, I started feeling more confidant and knew to make this work I would have to try harder so I switched to full liquids where I could at least have popscicles, pudding, jello, applesauce and not feel so deprived. For me afterwards, isnt nearly as hard. Ive sat here through my daughter ordering chicken fingers n fries, baked potatoes & salads, and she just came in from McDonalds with a bag. Fortunately she took after her father and she has never had to endure weight issues. My husband got a take out dinner last night, and it didnt bother me once. Im finding I have to force in my fluids and protein and today hasnt been easy so it is just Carnation Instant Breakfast with Carb Countdown milk, mixed with some protein powder for me today so I can at least build up my strength and energy. You've probably already digested those crackers and cheese so dont beat your self up anymore, just pull up your bootstraps and carry on from here. You know what you have to do and I feel sure you can do this! The hunger isnt there for me yet, I do not feel hungry, I always feel satisfied, maybe a slight pang right before my 2 hours is up for more protein, after I have my shake I feel fine. Too for my last meal I hit the chinese buffett. I have diverticulitis so 2 days before surjury I was sick as a dog from the buffett and really didnt want anything but orange sherbert, come back n post when you feel the need to vent some more. I dont feel to spry today, so I am not overdoing it and just resting and I will be in and out of here. Hugs, Sandy

My surgeon put me on a low carb/high-protein diet for two weeks before the surgery and I could live with it because I had to. Now I'm 5 days post op and I'm on liquids only. Kids and hubby eating pizza, pizza rolls, Taco Bell and I can smell every bit of it. And yeah, I want it bad. But I'm also 17lbs down and my vision is better, my blood sugar is normal, my blood pressure is normal, my ankles are normal again and I made a committment to myself. It's a hard promise to keep but I didn't promise myself to do this forever, I promised to do this for two weeks. Then I get to pureed foods. Then I get to soft foods. In a few months, I'll be able to eat whatever I can tolerate. And I can wait. You have to seriously commit yourself to the entire process. It's not going to work if you can't make it work. Unfortunately there's nobody who's going to come and grab those things out of your hands and stop you from eating them so you have to rely on yourself to stop. The smells of food aren't going to go away so take yourself away from the family when they're eating or send them somewhere else

Your surgeon sounds like my surgeon. I am amazed so many are on soft foods after only a week or less. I have 6 stages to get too before I can eat regular meals, and the 6th stage is real food. Im on full now until next week, but I can tell I have lost, just havent weighed (I dont have scales, I threw mine out before surjury when I went from 295 to 302!...LOL). My blood pressure has been normal since surjury, joints hurt less, have more energy (up until today) so the benefits of following the regimen are showing... Sandy

I know! I was reading a profile where somebody was 2 weeks post-op and had been eating chicken and filet mignon! My BP went to normal immediately after surgery and I did find going up the stairs to be less an ordeal than it had been before surgery. Very happy

I went to the library today to work on geneology research and I eyed those stairs for a long time before taking the elevator...LOL...My tummy is really sore today from coughing and sneezing last night so I didnt want to chance it

Have you tried low fat cream soups ?? Strained of course!! I am day 12 of my 2 week liquid fast and the soups were the key!! very filling and allowed!! I didn't think I would make it either and it seems like when I smelled the take out that the girls in the office ordered I would tell myself I was hungry!!! then I would have some soup and some crystal light and I would feel good about myself for making it through that meal!! It does get easier the first few days were the hardest and I think I have had a bit of a temper too, but Monday is the day for me woo hoo!!! good luck!! ~Jennifer

Oh yeah, Campbell's Cream of everything round here. Chicken, Mushroom, Celery, potato, blend em with water and nuke em. Then through a strainer into a mug with a little salt and yummy! Very filling. Good luck Jennifer! Lisa

On Wednesday I start a 7 day liquid diet and I'm gonna see how it goes. At least I don't have kids or a husband here eating in front of me. I'm more worried at this point about the 7 day liquid diet before hand than the liquid diet after surgery. I figure I hopefully won't have much of an appetite afterwards.

Do yourself a favor and get the protein shakes before your surgery so you'll have them when you get home. Drink them on your liquid diet too. I don't know that they've contributed to the energy, but I'm not exhausted or fatigued like I expected to be. Plus, you'll want to have the protein stuff after you get home because you won't be able to go anywhere for a little bit. You'll still have an appetite, it will just be satisfied with liquids.
