Im home!
YAY....Im a loser.... I made it through surjury and recovery just fine, I had a morpheine pump for 2 days and I hit that little button every 6 minutes until I didnt know where I was...The nurse told me to hit it every 6 minutes and I sure did...
I just took my liquid Lortab and will write until it hits me. I have a few tips for you guys that might make your hospital stay easier...
First of all forget the suitcase list. The only things I used were the undies, pads, housecoat and houseshoes. I did throw in a pair of sweats and wore those under my hosptial gown. I only have 4 small incisions, and one of those was were the drain was. It is a good idea to have pj bottoms with a pocket ( my sweats had a pocket) to stick this drain tube in when your up walking the halls. This way it doesn't pull and tug while your walking.
Next remember to elevate the head of the bed before getting up out of bed and before laying back down. This way it supports your back and tummy and you dont feel a strain on your incisions, in fact it was getting much easier to manever getting in and out of the bed.
I was dizzy the first day so my doctor didnt want me to walk much, just in the room as tolerated, but the second day was much better. I got out in the halls about 4 times, my IV came out last night and after that I was up and out every chance I got.
Now learning to drink the required amount and take in a full 3 oz's every other hour. Im on full liquids until I go back to see him on Monday. Its not as hard as I thought it would be just yet. I have to force the fluids in, Im really not hungry but definetely do sip. I couldnt have anything by mouth for the first 24 hours. This coughing and deep breathing stuff does hurt, so I hope it passes by tomorrow...other than that Im doing grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!
Thanks for the many prayers and well wishes!
Sandy
Thank you Susan! ...I never would have thought about pockets but they did have this drain dangling and it helped me not to pull it out accidently. I just left it in my pocket...also had on a heart monitor so if you have a robe or a top with a pocket, that is one less thing to carry when you go walking too..

Hi Michelle
I think the key to getting over this as soon as possible is to get moving and out of that as soon as you can for as long as you can. The hospital said they usually have threaten gastric patients to get out of the bed, but I just got up and started going and gradually increased my time up, and I feel better for it. Start off with whatever you can tolerate, rest in between and try again for a longer period. I averaged resting for 2 hours in between my walks, and of course if I was in pain, I asked for meds first and it made a world of difference. I dont see any point in holding back drugs, if you hurt..you hurt...take something for it and move on. Best of luck to you! cant wait to hear how your surjury went!
Hugs,
Sandy
