Surgery Date April 4, 2005, I Didn't Think It Would Be like this!
Don't get me wrong but, Ive been waiting for this surgery for years and I'm very happy it's being done but I feel lost and don't know how to express my emotions. I'm having my surgery in less than a month and I don't feel very educated about post op. At least my surgeon didn't explain any thing to me. I have appointments at the hospital with a nurse and a dietitian, maybe they will explain it all to me. But I just don't feel prepared, yet happy at the same time. Can anyone whose having surgery soon or had surgery tell if they did or do feel the same so close to their surgery date. God Bless everyone having surgery soon!

Hi hon,
CONGRATS!! on your surgery date!!! Mine is April 7th. I can try and help answer some questions for you. I got alot of information from my Dietition and Surgeon about Post-op. And you can get alot of information from those who have already had surgery by posting on the main board too
God Bless

Hi LaToya
Im full of bewilderderment it is actually happening, same day as you, we could be roomies if you were here, or I was there!
SEE, Im ...EXCITED,THRILLED, and wi**** was tomorrow. I feel prepared. I said from the start if it was meant to be, my higher power would make the way. He did!!! I have no fear whatsoever, in fact waiting for test results along the way was more nerve racking for me.
Its been a fast ride since January, Ive had all the testing (doing sleep study now) and I feel blessed because along the way they have found cervical lesions ( removed Jan. 05 could have turned into cancer if not treated, mother died of liver cancer), breast mass ( breast ultrasound revealed nothing and my sister died of breast cancer at the age of 36, 32 when diagnosed) colon polyp (removed Feb 05, grandfather had colon cancer). Currently being treated for H Pylori and peptic ulcer disease, again never no symptoms or indications I would have an ulcer, found on EGD. If it wasnt for wanting this surjury so badly I would have never went in for a colonoscopy without any symptoms, the GYN stuff would have been next year instead of this one so by the time I would have symptoms I might have had invasive cancer too. I feel so blessed! GOD IS GOOD!!!
Ive read the main board backwards and forwards, stick to my state board and feel well educated on all aspects and if it is something I dont know but want to know, I just post...If I dont get a reply, I email my surgeon's nurse or hit the www and research it myself. I just dig and ask, and pester these nice folks here at OH until I feel satisified. They are all truely wonderful s.
Best of Luck!
Sandy

My date is April 4th also. I had to see a dietician before they would schedule a date and go to support groups, among other things. Both of these were a wealth of knowledge. After surgery, my surgeon wants me to work with a nutrition group where there are MD's with a specialty in nutrition. He says they can follow you to be sure your are getting the proper amount of protein, vitamins etc by drawing blood and testing you. He feels they are more thorough. According to this surgeon, the follow-up is extremely important to the success of the overall process. You will find your way, God has a plan for you. Trust Him, and do research. Good luck and I will be thinking of you as we are in in together in a way.
