Never made goal :-(
Today is my year and half surgiversary and I still have 30 pounds to lose. Don't think I am going to make it. I do water aerobics 4-5 days a week. Have trouble with treadmill because my peripheral neuropathy in my right leg has gotten so much worse lately. I still weigh and measure my food when at home and I keep track in a note book my daily protein. I eat about 100 grams of protein a day, some days a bit more, some days a little less. I do eat carbs, but try to minimize the amount. I do put cream in my coffee, a bit of fat and sugar in that. I do not dump on anything. I thought that after a couple of months after doing intense wlater aerobics, the weight would start coming off. Any advice.? I am so glad I did this surgery, but a bit despondent on the looooooong stall like for about six months.

In my opinion you are taking in too much protein. You should try bringing it back down to 60-80 grams daily at the most. If excess protein is taken in, the body changes it to fat and stores it as fat. This is a fact. Unless you are a marathon runner you wouldn't need 100 plus grams of protein daily. This is merely my opionion based on this fact and you should always consult with your doctor and/or nutritionist.
Keep up with the water exercises. Maybe add in a day or two of weights or strength training and take those days off from the water aerobics. Bring your protein way down and boost your water. Surely that will get your loss started again.
Try to keep in mind that yes it's 30 pounds, but it's not 60 right? Your goal is still attainable. Just because you've approached your 18 month window doesn't mean it's over for your weight loss. You will always have your tool you just need to work it in the way that works for you.
Be proud of yourself for keeping up with your exercise even with your peripheral neuropathy, and to be still weighing and measuring your food? Kudos to you Karen!
Another thought, how about your vitamins? Are you keeping up with them? I started taking a B-1 with a Super B-Complex AND my B-12 daily and I really believe that has managed to help in keeping my weight down and stable. The B vitamins are supposed to promote the proper metabolism of carbohydrates. Although that statement isn't approved by the FDA, I believe it to be true in my case.
Let me just start out by saying I'm so jealous of you. I have 65# to go and have been through lap band and gastric bypass and it has taken me 3 years to lose 86% but I keep trying.
I haven't lost a thing since December 2005. I did Bikram yoga a minimum of 4 times a week for 8 months. You would think I'd at least sweat off some weight. But, when I put on my winter clothes with the first cold snap a few weeks ago, all my clothes I wore last winter are about 2 sizes too big.
I've made up my mind to try the plateau buster's diet starting Monday and getting back into a regular exercise routine. Hang in there and change something up and see if you can lose that last 30.
Another thing I think slows me down is I don't sleep enough. I have read several articles lately that say people who only sleep 5 or 6 hours a night have trouble losing weight.
Good luck,
Laura
Dont beat yourself up over this Karen. I havent made goal yet either but I have deliberately slowed down my weight loss for my mind to catch up with my body image. I know that sounds Ive lost 100 pounds twice ( now three times) in my lifetime and this time I want to keep it off so Ive focused more on looseing it slowly and eating 3 meals a day with 2 snacks, which is something Ive never done before. Im still looseing. It may be a few pounds a month but all those pounds add up.
I have noticed, when I eat like I should with 3 meals and 2 hi protien snacks and get in all the water, I loose faster. Im so tired from being on my feet all night at work, I do not exercise and Ive told my surgeon this. I do plan on starting back with walking and doing low impact exercise, like the Gazelle. I eat carbs, I put creamer in my coffee and its caffinated coffee at that. Ive given up tea and have not had a soda since I was pre op, just plain water but I will not give up my coffee.
I do not get on the scales either. I bet Ive probably only weighed myself 10 times in the last 2 years. I only weigh myself, when my clothes get baggy and then I do it at work. I didnt want to become obsessed with the scale and then discouraged when it stopped moving so I threw out my scales shortly after I came home from the hospital. I weigh when people tell me I look like Ive lost more, which was three times in one day recently, and when my clothes are baggy or I go see my surgeon.
Try to eat more dense protein, increase the water and I have heard those who do the plateu buster diet have good results.I have not tried that. I rarely eat bread, but try to fill up on good carbs. Ritz crackers are my downfall, and I do eat Yoplait yogurt at least 3 x a day. The loss kicked in once I did that for some reason. I have gone back to the basics before which seemed to stimulate the loss. Best of luck and let us know how you are doing!
