Hello all, I'm extremely upset. I had my surgery on 4/18/05. My start weight was 287 and I now weigh 193. My doctors says I should be weigh at least 160. As of yesterday I started doing the Atkins diet. I'm mad because I had major surgery to lose weight and if I wanted to do a diet I would not of even had the surgery. Yes I'm glad I have lost weight but I'm upset because I should have lost more weight than I have. Is there anybody out there who did the Atkins diet for a month straight without cheating and didn't lose any weight. I just want to make sure if I cut out carbs as my doctor told me to do for 1 month I will start losing again. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!.

Hey there Anjail. We spoke several months ago, I am not sure if you remember me or not. But I thought I would give you some encouragement here. You have to remember that when we speak of a diet, we are speaking of our formal selves. We no longer have to be on any sort of a diet. No matter what it is. It can be richard simmons. atkins, Jenny Craig, weigh****chers nothing will work for us. We have been designed if you will to reject those forms of programs. now Atkis believes that we should be consuming mostly protein, That should be our primary food source. We know that already. I am sorry you are not losing to your desired degree. Every body should be at a certain weight loss at a certain time frame. that is crap. We all are different, There is no way to guess or surmise how fast a person will or should lose weight? YOU SHOULD BE YOU. THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH. IF THINGS ARE NOT GOING AT A RATE THAT IS INACCEPTABLE TO YOU, THEN WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS FIND WAYS TO MAKE IT BETTER. EXERCISE MORE, AND HARDER. SHAKE UP YOUR ROUTINE. EAT PROTEIN ONLY...SNACK ON BEEF JERKY ALL DAY LONG. EAT 6 SMALL MEALS A DAY, NO EXCEPTION. DOING THESE THINGS WILL IMPROVE YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS. TO CONSIDER GOING ON A SPECIFIC DIET, WHEN YOU WERE SURGICALY ULTERED SO YOU NEVER HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN IS WRONG. You must create a mind set that this is for life and there is no quick fix to this. You should congratulate your self for your current weight loss and look to the finish line..you will get there...i promise you that. BUt it will take time to get there. there is no hurry. find ways to make you better and let the rest of the stuff go. Pat your self n the back and remember you should be you and that is the best any one can expect you to be. feel free to email me. I would love to encourage you along and see you to the finish line with pride Take care....and good luck... Rae 320/220/145...... 15 to goal......

I'm sorry that you are having a tuff time with your weight loss, I can ony encourage you to keep going and put to use the tool that you have - go back to the basics. Make sure that you are getting in your protein, fluids, and vitamins each day. It gets harder to lose the further out we get, I know I was on a 4 month stall - but I kept doing everything the same and suddenly started losing again, I am now at my goal weight. You will get there, it's just a matter of learning how to be patient while our bodies catch up with all of the drastic changes! 248/130 @goal finally

I understand how you fell. I had my surgery on 4/13/2005 and my weight on that day was 344lbs, today I am going between 190lbs to 210lbs....up and down.......today I am at 190lb but i should be more or less at 170lbs at this point. I am wishing that I was on target but I am also thankful for the weight I lost but I wish I could have lost more and I still want to loose more. But if I don't loose another pound I should say I would be happy with that but I can not lie I won't be. I have went back to taken the Phenphedermine pills but after they ran out I had to rely on me. But now my body is resisting the weight loss. So now I need to look into different diets as well keep me posted on the Atkins diet. However I do think that cutting out carbs will kick you back into weight loss. I know when I stop eating carbs I loose weight faster during those periods of time. Nikki

I know just how you feel.. I stopped loosing at 8 months out.. I have gained 22 lbs and have maintained my current weight since Jan, 06.. It is so frustrating to have gone threw such a major surgery to find out that you still have to go on a diet.. I have just had a major problem with going back to my old habits.. I don't eat alot at one time but I seem to snack all day long.. I have been trying to put more into exercising when I get a craving for something.. So far it has helped I am down 5 lbs.. in two weeks.. Just hang in there, sometimes it maybe a struggle but in the end it will be worth it.. You have done great so far.... Take care and God Bless.... We had surgery 10 days apart and I thought I would let you know that you are not alone in being a "slow loser". I met my surgeon and at that point I weighed 246 (5'2") and was told to lose 10 lbs. before surgery. On 4/28/05 I went into surgery weighing 234 lbs. and now Sunday, August 13, 2006, I weigh 153 lbs. I am so slow at losing but one of the biggest hinderances has been an unstable thyroid & lack of exercising due to bad knees and back. On 7/3 I had my left knee replaced and had complications so I'm still not exercising and am in physical therapy 3x a week. If you're not moving, start with walking even if it's in place inside. I know that I could've lost more weight if I'd been able to move! Let me know how you are doing. Susan

Anjail, I'm sorry that you are having a hard time loosing weight with your surgery. What I am going to say will not be pretty, but it is what I believe to be the truth. My name is Julian, I had surgery 4/25/05. At the time of surgery, I was 485. I say it and looking back I still can't believe it. Needless to say, I am now 218 pounds, from a size 66 waist to a 38. I eat 70% protien. The rest is carbs. I have my little cheats, key word LITTLE. The mistake that I think some people make with this surgery is that they think that they dont have to make a life style change. That this will be easy. When you were sucking food through a straw for six weeks what did you think ? Was that easy ? The diet thing is no more. This is your life calling. The surgery effects are starting to level off. You will only start to gain weight. You can never have the life style that you had. Face it the life style that you had was not working out, the surgey was your way of helping you change that. You have to break the old habits. If I can loose 268 pounds you can loose 50. YOU CAN DO THIS !!! A little advice from me, I have my carbs in the morning, that would be a HALF of dunkin doughnuts bagel (HALF) with butter. And I like butter ! I have that and a cup of coffe. That is the LARGEST intake of carbs for the day. Carbs turn to sugar, sugar to fat, fat BAAAD ! Carbs are great for a morning boost, and you have ALL DAY TO BURN THEM OFF ! Half the amount of carbs you had for break fast, you can have for lunch, with a protien. MORE PROTIEN than carbs. If you dont know what carbs and protien are, read the ZONE DIET ! Do some research on the web, HELP YOUR SELF ! Dinner should be ALL protien ! NO CARBS ! NONE ZERO ZILCH. AGAIN, you can do this, YOU can ! Please I know that this email, comes off a bit harsh. But WHY did you do the surgery ? Think back to that and remind yourself. Look at the old pictures ! The fat pictures, I'll email you my before and after if it will help inspire you. If you have any questions, please email me, I will be more than happy to help you any way I can. I am going through it to. We all are here ! Julian Please put Obesity.com in the subject line. So I know its not spam. [email protected] Be well, stay focused !

Hello Anjail, I just made a post that I too am at a looooong stall. I am at 170 and should be at 125 (my doctor's goal). Today is my 1 1/2 year surgiversary. I am going tyo try to heed the advice of Julian and just eat carbs early in the day. Actually I do eat any bread (only 1 slice) in the am and maybe a tortilla in morning or afternoon. Also, I do usually have a fruit or vegetable with most of my protein meals. Sop Juiliran says to not eat any carbs with dinner. BTW, I am from Detroit originally (grew up in Oak, Park). I will be coming there for a visit on Oct. 18 for two weeks to see my mom and friends. Karen
