Seriously, how much can you eat?
I can eat the following items at a time:
- a thin chicken breast
- a small steak (4 or 5 ounces)
- one piece of pizza w/o crust
- one burrito
- two small tacos
- one chalupa
- between 1-2 cups of chunky soup
- 1 serving of spahetti w/ meat sauce (I don't know in ounces, but probably about a cup and a half)
- any whole fruit
- most vegetables (potatos and carrots bulk up fast with me)
Most any food, you name it, I can probably eat about 1 serving, as long as it's not extremely high in sugar or grease.
-
Here is what I can eat at a time...
One burrito with extra cheese and sour cream n' salsa.
3/4 cup of soft foods like chili n/ cheese or tuna salad.
or oatmeal.
3/4 of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich ( of couorse sugar free jelly)
But it feels like a lead rock sometimes.
I can not do much red meat... I stay away from burger unless its turkey burger, then I can eat a whole patty with cheese no bread.. I found bread is just a filler.. But when I am on the run and want a quick fix.. There is nothing like a PB& J sandwich!
The only rice or pasta that I can tolerate is the Lean Cuisine meals and I don't eat much of them since they are so expensive.. I cook alot of beans and lentils with pork or turkey or chicken.
I still try to get in at least two protein shakes per day... But some days I just don't like to eat so I drink my coffee and try try very hard to drink water... Uggg! My little saying now is, "FOOD JUST SUCK!!"
My weight loss is just creeping along... But still losin... I am down - 205 lbs.

Katue and Tom, thanks so much for your input.
What you two are eating is pretty much in sync with what I can eat.
I have problems with rice, angel hair pasta, bagels, crusty bread and I still don't tolerate soda very well. I've prety much eliminated these things from my diets. I watch fat ans sugar very carefully.
I'm down 101 pounds and feel better than I have in 10 years.
Anyway, thanks for your input.

I just posted on the main board about orzo. I've never made it before and I ate a cup and a half easily, could have had more and sadly will in another hour or so. Bad habit, grazing. I don't really measure my food. I know I don't usually have a problem eating an entire bonless skinless chicken breast. What's that? About 4-5 ounces? I seem to be able to eat a cup and a half of pasta to maybe 2 with no problems. I think it sounds like we're in the same boat then. I know I worry about putting weight on now that I've made goal. I have bad days, like these past two where I can graze through a bag of m&m's. I don't dump on much of anything except ice cream. Thank God for that since that was my addiction before surgery.
Hey there Laura! I'm in about the same boat as you are. I can eat about 4-5 ounces of protein with 1/3 cup of veggies or brown rice. Or about 3/4 of a burger w/ cheese and only about a 1/4 of the bun.
Like today I've had a Pure Protein Peanut Butter Protein bar for breakfast, about a palm full of sunflower seeds around 11, and I'm going to have half of the chicken enchilada's I ordered from the local mexican place (I try to not eat the shell... but sometimes I do anyway). I'll probably have one of those Tuna on the go packs (minus the crackers and the mint) with a couple of soy crisps for dinner. Then I'll have either a granola bar or an ounce or so of beef jerkey for a late snack. It's a lot more than I ate in the beginning, but still not quite what most would consider a "normal" portion.
I'm having problems with grazing though. I've been trying to stick w/ peanuts... but sometimes my head tells me that m&m's w/ peanuts is still on the right track I don't dump on much. I really wish I still did. But now's the hard part. I've lost 150 since surgery, but I still have another 40 I'd like to loose.
I'm having an endoscopy on monday and I want him to tell me how big my stomach is... but I'm really petrified to find out
Keep up the good work everyone!

I am a little over a year out. I had RNY and I have never had dumping (sometimes wish I'd had). I eat about the same at a time as most here. I know I can eat either two crisp tacos at once or one taco and a few nachos (chips and cheese or salsa only). Or two pieces of a thin crust pizza. I don't really measure my foods. My biggest problem is grazing. I lost 65 pounds in the first 6 months out then I platued and then started gaining slightly again (10 pounds) I have not gone back to my surgeon cause I don't want him to think I'm not trying or that I haven't made my lifestyle change. I would like to know how big my pouch is now, seems like sometimes I can eat a lot and then other times I can't. I don't know! But I am having a really tough time with my head battles to take off this 10 pounds plus the 30 more I needed off to reach my goal. I would love suggestions!
Good luck to you.
Julie~
Hi Julie, I am like you, never made it to goal and have put on 20 [pounds since October. I need help. I tried just cutting out carbs and sweets and eat just protein and water. I have been exercising more, but the weight is not going down. I am sick with worry about it. Of course, I have gotten off track the last few months. BF buys sweets and no-nos and I have had a bite of two, not usually the whole thing. He likes bagels and english muffins, which I try to stay away from, but sometimes so hard. I figure a piece off of his can't be so bad, but I am just not doing well. No food bothers me, I never dumped. I could always eat anything from the beginning.
