Fastin(phentermine)
I am 8 months post op and have lost all my recommended amount of weight.. below my goal..
My question is..I still have refills on my fastin I had taken prior to WLS
I have 3 refills left until april 2005
. I am starting school soon and I am thinking taking the extra fastin will boost my energy level..
I have taken fastin for the past 6 years,.. I stopped approx 2 weeks before my WLS
Great.. Now I am worried if I start taking them again.. my metabolism will get shot to hell and back like it did before.. My thyroid was very slow.. so although I never lost weight taking the fastin..I stayed the same but had energy.
I do take my b-12 shots..It's just not getting things done..I have been so hooked on that speedy feeling having been away with it for over 8 months I feel so sluggish..
Feb I start school full time and will have to work full time as well..Where am I going to get this energy..
Has anyone taking perscription Diet pills after surgery for energy?
Just curious..
I haven't taken them..I am wondering if it could mess up my metabolism..my theories say yes..
It would have too..Right.. you take them and stop.. your metabolisim speeds up and slows down??
hmmm this is so questionable..I really need advice on this..I really need some energy..
any advice will be appreciated..the good, the bad and the ugly
Yikes! Everything in my now rearranged gut says No! but the thought ran through my mind the other day going through my drawer and finding a half bottle of the same. Narcotocs are not a good cycle to begin in my humble opinion, the energy is artificial and they may actually continue an unwanted loss for you with the way we are wired now. What time of day do you do your excersising? Maybe an early morning routine would give you the boost you need to get through the day. I am also wondering the effect it could have on the pouch as we are limited on so many different meds because of their deteriating factor on tissue, dont want any ulcers either. I do know that the excersise thing does speed up metabolism so do yourself a favor and go with the safe route

Hi Ann,
Thanks for youre reply..I do exercise in the A.M.
Sometimes a little extra in the mid afternoons..
I usually waalk about 4 in the evenings.. it is so hectic..
I get up at 5:30, walk on my treadmill till 6:30 get the kids up shower play on the computer.. leave at &:30 drop the kids off school and daycare get to work by 9, get off at 3 , take a nap ..meet my friend at the walking park by 4 ;30 3 days a week walk 3 miles.. come home cook dinner, finish laundry, straighten up, give the baby his bath.. read books with him try to get him to bed by 9 p.m. to start all over again...
In the evening is when I do my situps, and squats by the way.. I am just so sluggish and tired..I have no soda to drink to boost my energy..I have began consuming 2 cups of coffee a day..I just feel like I need a pick me up.. You are right I do NOT wanna turn to Narcotics..LOL
My friend has started taking over the counter speed.. in a cinnomen mint form.. I am afraid to take anything that willl mess my metabolism up and make me gain my weight back!!
Wow Lisa! Anyone who was doing everything that you are doing in a day would be exhausted!! I am a college student and mom of two kids (6 and 2) and that leaves me wiped out most days. I don't have a paid job to do on top of it, I can't even imagine!!
I have been feeling pretty tired lately and drinking more coffee than ever. Pre-op I wasn't a coffee drinker but since starting back to college over the summer I find that I need the mental freshness that the caffeine boost can give. I really think that I need to cut back though to just one or two cups per day instead of three or four.
Regarding the fastin/phentermine I really think that's a bad idea. I would be more supportive of a mood elevator than a speed type alternative. I've used phentermine three or four times in the past to lose weight and it worked great the first two times...after that the effectiveness seemed to be reduced and it didn't give me the energy or weight loss that it had previously. With our systems being more delicate I just can't imagine it being a good thing to introduce something so potentially harmful. JMHO!
I really think that you need a little more downtime and relaxation, possibly more sleep. You are trying to be superwoman and that is going to make you tired every time.
Hang in there!

Yup, my head tells me no way and I understand the feeling sluggish. My only suggestion may or may not help. I actually still take a sublingual B-12 tablet every morning; however, with everything I have to do I begin to slow down in the afternoon and I started taking a sublingual B Complex liquid too. I take it around 2:00 and it gives me the little boost I need to get through the day. I am not drinking any caffine (no coffee or sodas) so the only extra boost I get is from the B12.
Sorry I can't be more help.
I would not take any fastin at all, I took fastin and lost weight 8 years ago and I contribute it to much of my weight gain, because as soon as I went off of it, I started gaining the weight back and then some. In fact I went from 185lbs to 276 lbs in less than a year. When I really only needed to loose maybe 50 lbs, now here I am struggling to loose 100 plus pounds.
Just keep what you are doing, take your vitamins your energy level will come back.
