7 Months Today
Well, I'm officially 7 months today - down 65 pounds. I am without a doubt the slowest looser on record. I haven't lost anything - not one pound in over 6 weeks. I'm terrified. I have been sticking to my plan and am hoping that i can bust this terrible plateau. My current day consists of:
B - 28 ounce (coco/banana/peanut butter) high protien low carb smoothie
this last about 2 hours
s - some times - pep. chips or mozzarella sticks
L - 28 ounce smoothie or 1 cup of chili (home made)
s - 3 ounce tuna (packed in water) with 1 ounce mayo
D - cheese quesidilla (low carb tortilla) with montery jack and salsa or
homemade low carb pizza (low carb tortilla) with mozz. and low sugar
pizza sauce (ragu) or
home made chili with small salad
s - peppironi chips or cashews
That's it for food....i walk about 2 miles per day - 1 at work and 1 at home. i do water aerobics, yoga and treadmill at the gym on saturdays and sundays for 2 to 3 hours each day....i am moderately active at work - i stand while talking on the phone, walk around the entire office when i need to use the potty instead of just going to the bathroom from my office - I try to get in 10,000 steps per day - sometimes i'm less but most times i'm real close. i park away from my building so i have to walk further, i always park away from places i go to so i have to walk to get to them.
I guess my point is what's up with this plateau? has any one experienced one this long and how the heck do you get off of it - the clock is ticking and my time is running out. I have PCOS and i don't know if that is slowing me down. Should i go to the surgeon and have him put me back on metformin to help in the weight loss or should i just wait this out?

Hi Yvonne,
I have PCOS too, went through the whole range of fertility treatements, etc. (I am a success story- I got pg after my first try at IVF, and now have a perfect 2 yr old son.) Anyways, I don't know about your losing, but have you tried glucophage? It helped me a lot with my PCOS, and it is supposed to help your body be able to lose weight easier. It is worth asking your doctor about.
Good luck!

Hiya! Six weeks, wow! How much had you planned to lose total- were you a lightweight to start?
What brand of shake are you drinking? How many calories in it? The first thing I would do is cut back to three meals a day, and change your snack choices.
Maybe do two shakes, one low fat meal, and two small protein low fat snacks. Or, just one shake, and two meals. Otherwise maybe cut out the pepperoni, cheese, mayo, peanut butter & cashews, because those are all very high in fat, and may be hindering losses? I'm not the best one to give advice, because I'm living on cheese currently. Try to substitute some high protein lower fat items, tuna is perfect, maybe use fat free tuna? Turkey has TONS of protein, as does chicken... hardly any fat. Lately I'm loving to roll up a piece of turkey or ham with a pickle.
Do you use fitday.com? Try it... it really helps. What are your daily calorie/carb/fat goals?
HTH! Post again!

Hey Beth,
I know that 6 weeks is a long time - trust me. My doctor wanted me to loose 179 pounds total from the surgery. I would be happy with another 65 which would bring me to 130 pounds. I was not a light weight - started at 305.5.
My protien drink is one i make myself and it depending on ingredients contains 350 to 400 calories per drink - i only do one per day and it takes up two meals for me (it takes me 2 hours to complete it - it is my breakfast and first snack for the day). It has over 45 grams of protien and a full day supply of vitamins and minerals on top of my normal vitamin intake. It is a prime source of iron for me as i'm allergic to almost all iron supplements.
I try to limit the other main meal for the day to 300 cals and have one or two more 100/150 cal snacks. I don't do well with poultry at all - seems to be a texture thing with the pouch I try turkey all of the time but it doesn't work real well. Cheese and Tuna (in water) are two of the main things that work for me. Also handle red meat real well but don't want to eat too much of it - i do use a ground sirloin to make chili (200 cals per serving) but i try to switch my weeks out so i'm not eating the same thing every day.
My doctor very clearly said and supplied me a written manual which said 6 meals per day. I've tried to make it 3 meals and 2 snacks which are always high in protien. I try to limit salads and vegis until i have consumed at least 3 ounces of protien and then i'll take a few bites of vegi or salad. i do not eat potatoes, pasta, breads or basically anything white...i have not tried sugars at all. I'm just at a loss.
I've done everything i'm supposed to - just don't know where to go. I'm going to call the surgeon this week as it will be long enough period - they don't want to be contacted unless it has been longer than 6 t0 8 weeks.
Thanks for the advice though - i use fit day and my calorie intake is around 800 to 1,100 per day depending and my cals burned are about 2,000 per day.
Again, many thanks
Wow- thanks for replying so completely... I am at a loss though! Sounds like you are doing everything right! You're doing a hell of a lot more than I am, FWIW!
I would be pissed though if my docs' office didn't want to hear from me for 6-8 weeks!

I am also a slow loser. I am 6 1/2 months out and thought I would be smaller by now. I don't really know what to say, just wanted to let you know you are not alone. I am trying to remain optimistic and figured that I would not judge the success of my losses until 1 year out, but it is hard. One thing that has made me feel better, that maybe you want to think about. I measure certain body parts every month. Last month I lost only 4 lbs but lost six inches. It made me feel better. Anyway, I wish you success.
Kellie
Kellie, thanks so much for your support. I talked to my NUT yesterday and she said i'm taking in too much protien and that i need to cut it back. I never thought i'd hear that but i guess that is true. I've started today by reducing my protien drink from two scoops (45 grams) to 1 scoop (23 grams). and then i'm working on getting the rest from foods. we'll see how that works.
she figured i was well over 100 grams per day and only need about 60 to 70 per day - said my body might be storing it as fat so - i'm gonna try.
keep the faith and all things will work out. again, many thanks for the support.
