HELP HAIRLOSS
HELLO ALL,I WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYBODY IS USING NIOXIN FOR THEIR HAIR.I AM LOOSING ALOTS OF HAIR AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.WHEN WILL IT STOP?I'M AFFRAID THAT I WON'T HAVE ANY HAIR LEFT.I GET DISAPOINTED WHEN I'M TALKING A SHOWER AND I PUT THE SHAMPOO ON MY HAIR AND MY HAND GET FULL OF HAIR THAT CAME OFF.PLEASE TELL ME WHAT CAN I DO AND IF IT WILL STOP.I HEARD THAT IT WOULD GROW BACK I SURE HOPE SO.THANK YOU ALL AND GOD BLESS.
I haven't used Nioxin...I understand it is great when your hair does start to grow back in. I do have plenty of hair, but my surgeon suggested I take a Zinc supplement (zinc-magnesium-calcium). I have been taking it twice a day for about two months. I started losing hair around 3 1/2 months and it just recently started to slow down considerably...I am not losing near as much as I was a month ago.
My sister who is at 5 months post-op is also losing hair, but she lost big chunks of it. She has also started the zinc supplement and it also appears to have slowed down, but she is still losing.
Just keep your fingers crossed.
My hairdresser also had WLS three years ago and gave me some shampoo and serum to use for the next few months. She also told me to staart taking B-complex and Biotin daily to help combat it. It does seem to be helping. Vitamin Shoppe had the B-Complex in an easy-to-swallow formula.
I also heard that it does start growing again in a few months. I just started the vitamins and crossed my fingers. Seems to have slowed it down some.
Good luck!

I bought some Nioxin and used it a few times- but I have a tender scalp and it irritated it, and also my eyes. But if you can stand it, try it. Unfortunately, the hair loss is an internal thing and there is no shampoo that can prevent it- even taking biotin and B-complex will only help to a certain extent. I have consulted both doctors and hair dressers regarding the problem, and it is just something that happens after you have a major surgery. The good thing is- it should be letting up soon.
Good luck!

PS I had waist long blond hair that I had to cut 12 inches off due to the fact that I lost half of my hair!!
I used nioxin faithfully for 3mo and it did nothing for me except make my hair and scalp super dry...the hair still fell out rapidly. Now it has slowed down and hopefully new hair will start to grow soon. I think its just a fact of the surgery and I have just resolved that there isnt much I can do about it and it will get better.

Hi:
Sorry for the late post- I don't always get to read the boards. My hair just started to slow down with the loss. The hair loss started about 4 months postop. There was about a tablespoon in the drain screen and about 1/4 that much in the pick comb I use - and that was each day! I have very thick hair and wasn't too concerned.
My primary care dr. said that hair loss is due to the body reacting (kind of a "warning, warning, warning" signal that something is not normal) to a trauma, extreme stress, surgery, etc. etc. He also said the normal cycle for hair loss (we loose hair every day of our lives which is NORMAL) is to loose it in three stages - we don't really notice it. However, with the "trama" of surgry, the three cycles get "set" back to start at the same time, hence we notice it more because each 1/3 cycle is happening at the same time. The dr. also said that it should get back into sync in 2 - 3 months. He also said that it's not probably due to low/lack of protein.
Hope this helps!
