Slowing down???
Hi guys!! I read way more than I post, but are you noticing the slow down or is it me? My surgery was 4/14 I've been just creeping along now. I've lost 100 lbs (depending on the day). I've been bobbling back and forth between 172 and 175 for the last couple weeks. Before that I was stuck at the 175-178 mark. I think I'm doing the right things with water, exercise, protein etc.
I guess my question is -- is this because we're at the 6 mo mark or does it have more to do with what weight we're at? My ultimate goal is 135 -- the dr said 150 would be okay (I'm 5'5").
Anybody have thoughts on this? Do you think it will be really slowwww from here on out?
BTW -- I love reading all your posts. It's great to have such a good support group (on a daily basis)!!!

272/173/135?
Hi Janie...I am exactly the same size as you. 5'5", 173, started out at 278, and have been fluctuating at the same exact weights as you. When I had my 6 month checkup on Oct. 12, my doctor told me that the weightloss will start slowing down. I worry about that too, and my goal weight is 140, but I am still losing inches and weight. I feel like I will reach my goal within the next 6 mos. So don't despair- you are not alone!

Hi Jane,
I had my surgery 4/6/04. I have slowed down to almost a complete stop. My doctor told me it is the amount of weight I have lost. Before the surgery I lost 46 pounds and since the surgery I have lost 70 pounds so all together I've lost 116 pounds. My doctor said the body tries to store fat at this point. He said it will come off a couple of pounds a month at this point.
Good luck to you!
Gina
Janie,
I was glad to see your post. My weightloss has slowed to a crawl, also. My surgery was 4/19/04. I've lost 115 pounds. My Dr says it really slows down now. I am not as close to goal as you so it can't be that.
I was hoping to average about 10 pounds a month at this point. I'm not sure if that will happen now or not.

Janie-
We're practically the same size, (I'm also 5'5" & about 174)... and the weight loss has slowed down quite a bit. I'm actually losing in spurts, I'll go a week or two with nothing, and then lose 2-5 lbs in a week.
I really want to say it's the size issues, it's like our bodies KNOW we've only got 45 or less pounds to go, and they're trying to hold on to everything. Also, just think about how much LESS food your body needs to sustain your current weight, as opposed to 100+ lbs ago... it's catching up to your intake, which is probably closer to a normal diet now.
Just stick with it... just think, if we lose exactly 1.99 lbs a WEEK, we can be at goal (130-135 since we're the same size) on our one year anniversary dates. Doesn't that sound appetizing!?

Jane,
Yours is such a great point. I had my surgery on 4/15 and weighed in at 246. I'm down 81 lbs to 165 now but the weight is coming off much slower. I think it's a combination of losing a lot and eating more. I do find the more I eat (healthy stuff - about 1200 cals per day), the more I lose. I'm the same height 5'5" and my doctor is shooting for about 145 - 150, but we'll see when I get there. I'm losing about 7-10 lbs per month now.
Sometimes I start focusing on what the next size down is or my goal and I lose sight of the fact that I've lost 81 lbs., that I've created a whole new life for myself and that my health is in the best shape of my life. As I get a little discouraged b/c weight is coming off slower, I ask myself what other "diet" I've been on that enabled me to lose 7-10 lbs per month ever??
Good luck.

246-165-?
Janie,
I too have slowed to a crawl, well to be honest i havent lost anything in almost 2 months... it very upsetting to me, I too have a goal that i am wanting to make very badly. I had my surgery on 4/5/04, started out at 226 now 145... I want to get down to 126, but keep in mind, i am very short, 4'11".... i am finding that i am eating more, trying to be good, but "Halloween" had to come along! Darn Holidays!!! unlike most, I havent dumped since i was 2 to 3 weeks post op, so i can eat almost anything and not get sick... kinda sucks! the only thing i have going for me right now, is that i am still loosing inches... at least that is something... keep your spirits high and remember, as long as the inches are coming off.... your still loosing...
