Once a month I update my profile and check on my weight loss for the month. I only lost 8 pounds this month. Down from 12 last month. Is it normal for the weight loss to slow this quickly? Has anyone else experienced this? Dianne 340/237/150

Hi Dianne, First, I think that the only thing 'normal' about wls is that everyone is different. Hee! But honestly, I think it depends on the person. I'm still staying off the scale, but I'm starting to get comments that include the word 'skinny' in them. (long time that I've heard that word and my name in the same sentence). So I know its working! Take care doll, Rachel

Welcome to the slow-down... I've read it's normal for us to start losing less and less as we go on, especially from about six months. I haven't really been watching monthly, but I just looked on my Fitday... and I lost 11 lbs this month, and 20 lbs LAST month. ARGH!! That's why I'm posting so much now, and logging my food intake like a madwoman... I need to stay accountable.. I can't lose track now.. you know? Beth

For me personally, my doctor said at this point I'll probably only see a 5-7lbs loss each month from now on-- occasionally a little more, sometimes less. Hearing that frustrated me, but I really can't complain-- I've lost 80lbs, and 5lbs more a month will put me at another 30lbs lost at my 1 year mark, which is only 20lbs over my goal weight. I know it took me years to gain all this weight, and I figure at least I'm still losing, no matter how slow, instead of gaining. My surgeon told me the rate at which people lose will vary greatly from person to person. The best way to tell where you are (and its only a guess anyway) is to know the weight you started out, how you've progressed the first 6 months, and what your goal weight is. People who need to lose more will most likey lose more weight per month, and the closer to "goal" you are, the slower it will come off. But it WILL come off!

Dianne - this is too funny - I was going to get on today and post to find out if anyone has slowed down with their weight loss, decided to read first then post. Low and behold! I don't feel alone. I so love this website. I lost 14 pounds last month and only 8 pounds this month. I was so disappointed - but now, i feel like the Norm. Toni Bowen 285/209/135

My doctor told me in August that my weight loss was going to slow down, but I have been consistantly loosing around 15 lbs per month. I am slow but steady and I like it this way. Everyone at the support group meeting told me that my weight will also begin to slow down, I do not care as long as I weigh 175 by Christmas. I plan to increase my exercise this month because I slacked last month but still lost 12 lbs. Hopefully this will help. Lori 258/188/148
