I HAD MY SURGERY 4/14/04 AND I HAD MY PERIOD DURING SURGERY. I HAD ONE THE NEXT MONTH AND NONE FOR ALMOST THREE MONTHS. WELL MID AUGUST I STARTED TO SPOTTING AND FOR THE LAST WEEK I HAVE BEEN BLEEDING HEAVY. I HAVE BEEN BLEEDING FOR THREE WEEKS OR SO. I THINK IT IS CAUSE I HAVE LOST ABOUT 100 POUNDS BUT I WANT TO KNOW IF ANY OTHER WOMAN HAS WENT THROUGHT THIS AND WHAT TO DO. I CALL MY DOCTOR BUT I DON'T WANT TO GO THROUGH A LOT OF TEST FOR NOTHING. CAN ANYONE HELP??????????

VENETIA,
I agree. Call your doctor. What you're going through is perfectly normal under the cir****tances (I went through it too) because of the release of hormones as we lose weight quickly. However, you can not afford to lose any extra iron! My iron is rock bottom because of this very thing! In fact, I'm going to have a uterine ablation where they permenantly stop the bleeding without having to do a histerectomy!
Your OB/GYN can give you some hormone pills that will pretty much stop your bleeding in it's tracks. Go ahead and call. And don't take NO for an answer!
Good Luck,
Ronda
Hi Dianne,
I just wanted to encourage you to call your doc anyway. If you keep having cycles like this, your iron really could suffer and let me tell you, it is no fun. Your energy level sinks to nothing.
Even if you can't take hormones, maybe there is something else they can do. I'm sure that if it is strictly because of the weight loss, it won't last forever. But if you always had heavy monthly bleeding, there may be more they can do.
I've actually heard a lot of women complaining about this same thing lately on the OH main message board too.
Good Luck,
Ronda
Ronda, I don't want to burst your bubble but a uterine ablataion will not permenantly stop the bleeding. It merely slows it down considerably. I had one two years ago andLwas one of the greatest things I ever did for my body. I still have periods they are just really light and usually last about four days instead of 6 or 7.

Three weeks of bleeding is a lot...I agree with others that you NEED to call the doctor....personally, I have been having issues too. I was going through an early menopause (36 yrs old) and having a period only about every 2-3 months. Now since surgery I am having HEAVY periods and on a much more regular schedule (bummer), but my doc explained that estrogen is stored in fat...the fat melts away, the estrogen is released into the body....I'm not sure which I prefer....hot flashes or heavy bleeding...gee, oh what fun....
I hope your doctor fits you into his schedule.

VENETIA,
Again, I agree with the others. You need to call your Dr. ! I didn't have my period for probably like three years except for the occasional spotting before my surgery (4/29/04) and now I've had two majorly heavy ones since surgery. I had cramps for a week with this last one and am now making an appointment to see my OBGYN next week. I haven't had an examination in a long time and am alittle afraid of what they'll tell me.
Don't let things go like I did. It's probably fine..but just make sure. Our bodies are so new again...like a new car..we need to get every little clink and clunk checked out!
Take care, blessings and good energy,
Denise

Hi Venetia. I went through the same thing...talked to my gyn and it's due to the rapid weight loss. Estrogen is stored in fat cells, and at the rapid rate we lose at, it sends our bodies in haywire. I wouldn't be concerned unless it doesn't stop. Mine did it for 2 months and has resolved itself. And my iron levels were fine when my bloodwork was done. Just make sure to take your vitamins.
