April losers....hair problem????
my hair loss prior to surgery was over 100 hairs per day - i have very thick hair. i haven't noticed any change as yet but i never do - my hubby would be the first to notice (it lands on the bathroom floor and he cleans it up when i leave for work).
Anyway, my doctor told me prior to surgery that it was something that was to be expected from between 3-6 months post op....he also told me that buying all of the expensive creams and pills will do no good. It is natural - your body is using it's resources to heal and will be from surgery to 6 months out. Even people that didn't have wls have this issue when they have major surgery.
My doctor stated that the only thing that can help slow it down would be to make sure you get your daily requirements of protien. the hair is from dead protien cells - so the more you have the better. I put a lot of trust in my surgeon as he has over 20 years of experience with wls so i'm sure he has seen it all.
Anyway, i'm going with what he said - i'm maintaining my protien at over 80 grams per day - like i said i haven't experienced any loss yet but according to my surgeon it could happen anytime over the next 3 months.
good luck.

Hey-
Im a late april loser (the 28th) so Im not as far out as most of you yet, but I do have a little bit of thinning. It's not noticeable with me because my hair is really thick, but zinc was recommended to me as a way to help that problem.
I think its just something that happens when we go through major surgery. Hell if it falls out, I dont care--I'll get a wig! Im going to be thin!
WOOHOO!
