Ok, this if just for my own edification. I would like to know a few things (this will really help me get my head straight): 1. How much have you lost since your surgery? 2. What is your typical day like (food wise - calories/fat/carb)? 3. What is your exercise routine? 4. Do you have PCOS? 5. Do you consider yourself a slow looser or average or quick? Like i said above, this is strictly for me. I'm just trying to figure some things out for myself as I tend to be a very slow looser and i'm trying to compare my routine and see if there are things i need to change in order to loose a little more than i do. Currently i struggle between a five pound boundary every two weeks which is frustrating - one week i'm battling and the next week the five pounds comes off then battling again. Thanks for your answers if you choose to answer. open rny 4/19/2004 305/255/???

I have lost 51 pounds I am eating about 1200 - 1300 calories/35-40 fat/40-60 carbs/135 gms protein i am walking 2-3 days a week on a treadmill I some times feel slow, others average. Depends on the day and who's post's I read. This had been a hard week for me. I have been stepping on the scale every day and that is not good. I had a weight gain during the week but so far I jut have not lost anything. I am a DS surgery patient which is hard to compare to RNY but I feel like I am eating to many carbs. It will be interesting to see what everyone else responds back. Toni Bowen Open DS 4/20/2004 285/234/135

I'm not April 19th- but I'll play. 1. How much have you lost since your surgery? 79 pounds, since April 5th. 2. What is your typical day like (food wise - calories/fat/carb)? I haven't been logging it, but it's probably under 1000 calories, I don't count fat grams, and under 20 or less carbohydrates. I eat almost all protein foods... limited carbs.... Breakfast- 5 small slices bacon (lately this has been routine :-x) or nothing... not much feels good in the morning... Lunch- Protein Bar Dinner- 3 oz or so of a meat Bite or two of veggies I try not to snack, but if I do (and I do), it's usually something from another meal, or a protein bar, or nuts. I also drink lattes, normally one a day, with whole milk and splenda. Liquids- About 48 oz Crystal Light... 3. What is your exercise routine? Lately, it's walking. I did three miles yesterday and two miles today. I've been walking outdoors at night after DH gets home from work. On average it's about 3 times a week, but I am kicking it up to at least 5 this week. 4. Do you have PCOS? No, but then again I've never been checked. 5. Do you consider yourself a slow looser or average or quick? I think I'm a slow loser, but I know I'm average. :-/ I've lost 79 lbs. in four months, but I had envisioned at least 100 at this point. Though, I know I haven't followed all the rules, haven't always eaten enough, drank enough or exercised enough. Beth -79

My surgery was a bit before yours, 4/13/04, but I'll play! 1. How much have you lost since your surgery? 278.8 down to 210.5, almost 70 lbs! 2. What is your typical day like (food wise - calories/fat/carb)? I don't count calories, etc...regularly but I have checked a couple of days, about 650 cals, don't count fat or carbs. I don't eat much for the most part! LOL Breakfast - whey protein drink with skim milk Lunch - cottage cheese with light canned fruit or applesauce, or fold over bologna sandwich on skinny bread, or yogurt Dinner - a little of whatever I fix for the family, for instance, a half hamburger patty, veggies and a bite of mashed potatoes. 3. What is your exercise routine? I have to admit no actual "routine" yet but I'm alot more active in general. I do yard work like mowing and the weed-wacking now, take the kids out to the park, shopping and the pool most days. Our new pool is almost completed so will begin swimming daily! 4. Do you have PCOS? Yes, diagnosed about 3.5 years ago - conceived two children through strenuous diet and exercise. 5. Do you consider yourself a slow looser or average or quick? I consider myself an average looser. Aylene lap RNY 278.8/210.5/150ish

Average protien 80 grams, carbs 100 gram, fat? not much. 3. Exercise just started doing water aerobics at the YMCA 2 days a week, this hasn't been my strong point. 4. As far as I know I don't have PCOS, but do have infertility problems and when I was married went through infertility treatment with no success. 5. I consider myself an average loser.

Ok, I'm April 14th, but I'll play too! As of today, I've lost 75 lbs..and yet, I consider myself a slow loser. I'm finally under 200 lbs. a big goal reached! I dont' eat much, which means I'm not getting all the protein in I should. I wish I could drink with my meals..that is the hardest thing, and eating slow, to overcome! Typically I eat the following in one day: glass of milk with sugar free instant breakfast, yogurt (low carb), and 4 saltines with one slice of cheese cut into 4's on top..I need the crunch! Perhaps I'll have one more yogurt or the saltines w/cheese as a snack. I walk or go to the gym to excercise 3-5 times a week. I hate it, but I'm really sagging and trying to tone.. Don't know what POCS is , but in reading the other responses, if it has to do with infertility, never had any problems in that area.. Was in Las Vegas this past week..went to several buffets, got sick twice..and was afraid to get on the scale this morning, but I lost 5 lbs while there..still, in my MIND, I consider myself a slow loser...I can't get this weight off fast enough! Wish you continued good luck with your weight loss. Jan

Had RNY April 19th Do not know how much I have lost total...I don't have a scale at home and have not weighed since my last Doc appt.. If I had to guess I have probably lost somewhere between 50/55 lbs. Breakfast usually eat 1 scrambled egg with cheese melted on top Snack- cheese stick or beef jerkey Lunch-some kind of chicken either plain or on salad Snack- 1/2 protein bar Dinner-depending on what I make usually meat of some kind I work out 3/4 times a week at my Rec center. I don't compare my weight loss to others, so I figure I am on track for me and where I am supposed to be. I figure its not how fast I get to my goal, just that I make it!

Good idea Yvonne! I think there is no typical/average weight loss. We're all starting at different points, we're different ages, and have different medical problems. After reading the responses to your post, it helps me to realize that what is average/okay for me is not the same as for someone else. I was boxing myself into thinking that by now I should have lost as much weight as the next person, but looking at the different diets of WLS members, I see there is a variance of between 600 - 1200 calories per day with different exercise plans. I think we have to do and accept what is right for us. 1. I am an April 19 weight loser - I have lost 54 pounds but have been plateauing since the beginning of July. 2. Right now I am between 700-1000 calories a day. I was really limiting my calories the first two months, but have read that if you keep this up your body goes into a starvation mode until it adjusts. I have read that to get off the plateau you need to eat more calories a few days to stimulate your metabolism. I am also now taking green tea pills to boost my metabolism. 3. My exercise is I go to Curves and walk. I try to do one or the other every day except Sunday. 4. I don't know what PCOS is? 5. I was a quick loser at first - but then I would just as soon not even eat at all the first two months. Now I am extremely slow. However, I am at a point of acceptance that it is going to go slow now. As long as it keeps coming off, I will be happy with 1 - 3 pounds a week. That means by my one month anniversay I could be at goal (125 as I am onlyu 5'3"). My doctor says 120, but I am more realistic and think 125-135 will be HEAVEN for me - after being 120 pounds overweight since my early 30s. Continued good luck to you. Remember that we are all truly unique individuals and need to accept what works for us as we follow our doctor's recommendations.

Nancy, Thanks so much for responding. You are right, after seeing all of the different patterns of people/eating/excersize, health issues - it is much easier to put things in prespective. that is why i was doing the poll...i needed to get my head into the right direction (feeling bad for loosing so slow). I like you was a quick looser at first and then the brakes were hit and am not the tortise. I'm fine with being the tortise, just wanted to help others with their understanding along with myself. have a great day and many thanks for the response. open rny 4/19/2004 305/252.5/???
